Feature requests, suggestions / Re:MIDI?

Never claimed to know everything. But most people ditched MOD and MIDI in favour of MP3, not caring about the licensing details.

If I could remember the URL I'd give you the one for all the Amiga source code that became public domain, like I said MOD was AFAIK originally a Amiga file format, before some intelligent human being ported it to the DOS platform.

cat is a friend of mine, who is the same about his nick. Under values his own importance and individuality so he doesn't capitalise his nickname.

And sorry the only psychologist I know who is anywhere near these forums is my better half, and she's not involved at all at present.

That was the first time you added "seems", last time you didn't so I took the literal meaning as the way you meant it.

Oh great, you're just like cat, if I'd know I wouldn't have done it provided I rememberd to mess up my spelling. :-)

You never know, I just stated what was in my DVD and VHS collection. Not what I had on my computer, I forgot my Robotech series DVDs anyway (damned if I know how, at least I'm honest enough to admit to what I like and what I don't like, it's served me well when it's counted. *Would hug his PW Fianc

LOL The only reason mod has better sound is because it's the software equivalent of a SFX sampling board. The independent sounds are actually samples which are called via the same method used in MIDI (or similar at least because I've never seen a MIDI sequencer work like a MOD one period).

You can get the same quality of sound using a similar method with MIDI files, like iMuse I think used which is called a wave table, which is similar to the "Sound Font" libraries used by Creative soundcards these days (like my SBLive!, the Audigy, etc), in that the MIDI sequencer isn't called, but a replacement of it's instruments sounds ie I call a Muted Trumpet, it plays a sound effect which in theory is a recorded Muted Trumpet at a neutral tone, which can be modified via other calls like normal midi effects (ok so I'm simplifying it a lot).

It depends on where you want to take Wintermute in the future, if you intend to remain freeware the SEAL Development kit would be a good idea to look at. http://www.sonicspot.com/sealsdk/sealsdk.html Or even FMOD http://www.sonicspot.com/fmod/fmod.html I cannot think of any completely open source development as far as MOD goes, but you might try having a look at the Amiga developers archives, it is where it started from. :-)

It is not an easy game, I myself got stuck at the wrecked ship for quite a while. It took 3 of us over 6 months to figure out that game.

I have played that same version, as I have said to a friend recently, I remember quite well climbing that blasted tree just north of the main gate time, and time again to build up my stats.

And as to the Indy 4 CD version, I managed to find a site with it, if you'd paid attention to the other thread you would have seen that. *Chiding*

First Indiana Jones movie I saw was the Last Crusade, wasn't overly impressed with the movie itself at the time but the character of Indy is one that appeals to any kid I guess. Between the movies and the game Fate of Atlantis you have one of the major causes of my fascination with history, particularly myth and legend, I run a PBeM freeform RPG centered around Atlantis these days amongst other things.

Hmm, considering my early childhood maybe I was doomed from the beginning to be fascinated with everything except reality.

Memories of early childhood:
  • Cricket
  • Soccer
  • Dr. Who
  • James Bond
  • V
  • Flight of Dragons
  • The Last Unicorn
  • Star Trek
  • Thomas the Tank Engine
  • Transformers
  • Voltron
  • He-man
  • Dino Riders
  • Little Wizards
  • Elmchanted Forest
Present VHS/DVD collection:
  • James Bond
  • Star Trek
  • The Last Unicorn
  • Flight of Dragons
  • Visionaries
  • Indiana Jones Chronicles (some of these are hard to find)
  • John Wayne
  • Dr Who
  • V
Not much changes does it sometimes?

Yeah I've become a bit of a collector as well over the years since I bought my first two.

Strangely enough the answer to your question has been under your nose quite often.

I've been a big fan of Indiana Jones for most of my life, and Fate of Atlantis has been one of my favourite games of all time, not just Adventure games. You ever want a difficult Adventure game grab yourself a copy of Curse of Enchantia sometime, all the puzzles are logical, albeit a very twisted logic at times, but it's quite hard to figure out the next move.

FoA and CoE were the first IBM games I ever bought, and the first Adventure games I ever played as well. Ironic really.

Interesting can of worms I managed to open by mentioning a game I've never played myself, but knew about. I'm glad you guys seem to be enjoying a classic game though, if it's even half as enjoyable as I found the movie then you guys are playing a brilliant classic. For now I'll go back to playing through one of my favourite adventure games of all times. And then I'll go see about playing through Indy 3 as well.

Yes I know what they're like. But then I never said exactly what. There is a lot you can learn from revamping older games, if you do it right though.

Ofcourse you can learn many things if you try to remake old games. I am sure that the Tierra team has learned A LOT with their hard work. But I am still prefering original & new ideas than remakes. But if you really would like to create a remake I wish you good luck and I am looking forward to see your project :)

It's always amazed me that Tierra haven't been touched by Sierra, since if anything Sierra is more interested in maintaining a stranglehold on their products than any other company still existing.

Yeah, it's a mystery to me too. Oh... and there is a company that is more hardcore than Sierra in those matters : LucasArts. They have even threaten the scummvm team  ??? which is really stupid.

Yeah I'd heard about the threats, there was a while there I thought Sierra had shut down Tierra. I managed to find a site which had the CD release of Indy 4 for download. Frankly I consider it fair to dl it since I've already bought the game once for over double what it was worth in all fairness.

Biggest problem I have with any project I want to do is tracking down someone to do what I can't. I'm at best a mediocre artist, and my music composition stinks normally (can't compose on a PC for some reason).

Ah. The answer to both parts is "that sucks".

The collectors packs were available here in Australia for a few years when I was younger, but I could never get my mother to get the one with the Indy 4 CD.

Oh and for the record, there is a game missing in the list, Lucasfilm Games in 1986 produced an Adventure game for the movie "The Labrinyth" (Good movie if you don't mind David Bowie and Muppets). Hmm, I might just follow in the footsteps of Tierra and begin doing some remakes (I have seen something recently about Lucasarts supposedly resurrecting FoA for the PS2 heaven help us).

Hmm. *Goes to find his MI-1 CD since he doesn't remember CD Audio tracks*

BTW About the Loom update, there wouldn't happen to be something like that for those of us who own the original Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis disks would there? *Doesn't really want to pay any more after the original 55 USD for the 5 1/4 inch version on PC*

Yeah I noticed that after I replied. Not used to YaBB, run PHPBB myself. And I doubt it, Episode 0 looks pretty good but I don't remember a project member with a nick like Dee.

And aren't even visible for some of us. I'm getting dead links.

Each to their own Mnemonic. I can't remember ever writing a script period, but that is a personal matter, I've always been a freestyle writer. But if you're going to work with multiple writers, you need to set out a standard format.
