Title: 22 seconds...
Post by: Jerrot on March 25, 2003, 01:06:38 PM
hi,

maybe somebody would like to download this little 22 seconds MP3 (345kB) ?

i don't want to tell you too much more about it, i'd just be interested in ANY kind of comments (quality, possible purpose, what do you "see", ...) for this time.  :)

thanks!

Oooh, it's cool!

What did you use?

The first part seems like those dramatic films where there's a helicopter trying to get people out of a tall building or something... drama, triumph.

The second part is more like a conversation with an npc or something... but just an introduction. Someone or something specific comes into the scene. Maybe the whole thing is a royal or vip intro?

Very nice one, Jerrot.. I agree with Brassfire's comment.

I only wish the second part would go on and on, it would make a great background theme for an arabian / middle-eastern beduine village..

Hi and thanks to all of you!

What did you use?

It's my first try using Cubase connected with my keyboard (midi) and some VSTi - but the samples just sound quite good. I could imagine to keep this "classic orchestra" style for my game.

I'm VERY happy about that impression. I'm sure, music is one of the most important and underestimated parts in a game. And it works, you're quite close to my inspiration without having seen anything.

I imagined a chapter intro, the first part showing a huge castle, where the bad guys just capture the hero's love. Drama, right!
And then - the second part - the "cam" shows our hero, hiding behind a huge rock or tree, telling the player something like "Hm, I MUST rescue her, but how can I pass the crocodiles ?"... ;)

I only wish the second part would go on and on, it would make a great background theme for an arabian / middle-eastern beduine village..

Oh - yeah, you're right, it's that nice clarinet somehow...
Hmm, as our story will play all around the earth, I'm sure I can use this impression somehow. Ohhh, it will take years...  :-\

Thank you again, it's very helpful to read what others "see" in music without knowing anything about it. :)

Jerrot.

If you have a tiny "slice" of music that works, that can be used as a "motif" elsewhere for familiarity. (The best example of a motif is Beethoven's 9th. Everyone knows da-da-da-dum!)

You can vary it a little, use the same rhythm but different notes, same rhythm but change all major chords to minor or vice versa... or put the same notes in a different instrument or rhythm... or just part of it in various instruments...

Music is fun. ;D

OK i listened to it this time, and it IS good.maybe. my views are, the first bit is like the ending of FinalFantasy 5 which is cool and the second bit is like the part in FF5 where you go back to the main characters home town and everyone thinks your a stranger and an outcast and then they realise and blah blah blah.

ps thanks for welcoming me Jerrot, this forum isnt bad as it is about game creation in general and not the wintermute engine which i cant download due to my pay as you go 56k connection  >:(i ve tryed it twice, i got to 10.2mb and about 9.8mb :'(

hi dawsonus,

thanks for you feedback, unfortunately I didn't play FF5 yet, so I'll have to now. :)

anyway - i just installed my new soundblaster audigy 2 and my new 5.1 surround boxes... and everything I made sounds bad now, so I'll have to play around with the surround features now...

If your connection is that bad, you should consider to install some kind of download manager like FlashGet or GetRight. So you can resume downloads that broke due to lost connections or whatever, and you don't need to start the whole download again.

I always wanted since I bought a surround system for my tv+dvd, but I had no 5.1 soundcard. now i bought both together and I love it... it's really fun to compose music with surround sound!

You can get FlashGet here : http://www.amazesoft.com/download.htm (http://www.amazesoft.com/download.htm) ! Of course this makes no sense if you can't download at all, but FlashGet has only 1,7 MB, so this could work. Do you have general problems with large downloads or would it help you if I mirror the WME package to another server ?
