Game announcements / The Eldritch Cases: Dagon
« on: April 16, 2014, 10:14:46 PM »
Hey folks,

I have just started the Kickstarter campaign for my horror adventure The Eldritch Cases: Dagon

The game is done in Wintermute (of course :-) ), and it was previously known as H.P. Lovecraft's Dagon (there is a thread about it somewhere down below in the forum).

It's 3rd person, 2d, and will feature a chilling soundtrack done by Jan Kavan (metamorphium here in the forum, but you probably know that).

If that's you thing please check it out: http://kck.st/P5rfaE

Thanks :-)

UPDATE:

Howdy fellow Wintermutees! For quite a number of reasons (at least 4) project Dagon was on ice for the past ~2 years, however, 2013 sees the rebirth in new glory :-)

The project has been restarted from scratch, so the old screenshots etc are not reflecting the current state any more.

If you are interested, the latest information, screenshots and what not are on the main website:

Software and games / Carrara 6 has DirectX Im/Export!
« on: August 03, 2007, 12:09:47 AM »
DAZ3d just announced that the soon to be released version 6 of Carrara comes with both Driectx Im- and Exporter (geometry, materials, skinning, animation) - maybe an alternative for people who still haven't found the right modelling software for their 2.5d project.

Help wanted and offered / Finding graphic artists
« on: August 01, 2007, 01:37:53 PM »
As a lot of people here are opening threads for finding graphic artists - with mostly no success, because the few that are here are already bound to their own projects - I thought it might be a good idea to collect links for graphic communities, model collections, single artists etc, where one has better chances to find an artist for his/her project.

So here are some:

http://www.cgsociety.org/ Afaik the biggest community for professional 3d artists
http://www.raph.com/3dartists/
http://blenderartists.org/forum/ Dedicated to Blender entirely
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/index.php The name says it
http://www.cg-creatives.de/ German/English community for CG artists

That's just a start, if you know more links, please add.

And good luck finding an artist ;-)

Software and games / 3ds camera and light export with Vue 6
« on: July 29, 2007, 01:33:57 PM »
Vue 6 xStream (maybe other versions too, haven't checked) exports both cameras and lights to 3ds. There is a personal learning edition (PLE) available for free at E-On Software (http://www.e-onsoftware.com/try/vue_6_ple/) which unfortunately renders with a watermark but exports complete scenes, so you could use Vue for 3ds export and render the scene in some other application. Don't know if that's really a feasible workflow, but maybe worth a try for those who don't want to use Blender and have no access to more expensive programs.

To export the cameras and lights you have to select them in the scene tree and then use "Export whole scene" in the menu.

Technical forum / Plugin question
« on: August 12, 2005, 09:25:31 PM »
I just toyed around with the snow-plugin, and it runs really fine (even with 1500 flakes :-) ), but one strange thing happened:

I used it in the front-scene of the 3d demo, and the flakes appeared everywhere besides above the crates in the foreground wich are a free entity. Is there something we can do against this? I guess using StickToRegion or something like this wouldn't help here as the free entities are at the bottom-layer, or?

Game design / Intro Videos
« on: May 03, 2004, 01:29:12 PM »
I'm just planning an intro-video for my game, and if I put all my ideas in it, I think it will be very long - approx 4-5 minutes.

What do you think, is this too long? Will players lose the interest if they have to watch a long video before they can actually play the game? Or is a longer intro ok (given that the video itself is not totally boring  ;) )

Software and games / Lucasarts Survey on Adventures
« on: December 20, 2003, 02:52:07 PM »
Lucasarts has started an online-survey on adventures ( http://www.surveyhost.com/lucasarts/lucas_28_1.htm) ... some questions do sound very interesting, maybe we can expect a Hitchikers Guide to the galaxy-Adventure in the next time?

Don't panic, I would buy it :)

Technical forum / Different Sprites for the main actor?
« on: December 19, 2003, 10:56:18 AM »
I've just wondered, is it possible to have different sprites for the main actor?
I don't mean the animation sprites, but completely different ones. I couldn't find something about this in the help file.

The reason for this is, that my game will take place in very different regions and cover a time span of approx. 3 months from autumn to deep winter, so I think it would be more realistic (and hygienic of course  :) ) if he would change his clothes from time to time :)

I don't need an in-depth explanation of how it works, a simple Yes or No is enough (though a Yes would be prefered :) )
