btw, are the textures from the above link free? I don't understand french and they look too good to be free.

Thanks for the coments.

My idea of this post was to search for improvements not mainly in the graphics of the scene, but in it's arrangement and its propriety for an adventure game :).

As I said, there is a lot of room for graphics improvements.

EDIT: Why did you say, bump mapping is not advanced in blender? You can use up to 8 texture channels, so you can have even 7 different bump maps if you are so inclined.

I meant that it is not as advanced as 3ds ;D, but that's self-undersood ;D.

What I wrote above I meant for 2d sprite characters.

As for 3d actors, wouldn't it be possible just not to restart the walk loop on clicks registered during this loop?
I'm sorry if I might sound stupid, but I'm not really into graphics programming, I have experience in just MFC and audio effects programming.

Even if you don't enjoy the game, you should at least respect the effort - after all this is a free game

Thanks for the comments, they will really help (you know it's sometimes hard to decide if something you've made yourself is good enough or not).

Sadly Blender's bump map support is not that advanced, but I think that improvements could be made, I'll try to work in that direction.

About the lawn and the tress - there are some pretty good free grass meshes around, but if decide to make the whole lawn 3d, it would take like forever to render with raytracing. But when I make the final renders I will definitely add 3d grass and bushes and might even render the scenes with YafRay, which will make everything look truly realistic, but it will take even longer to render.

I'm shure I could make the graphics look much better.

What about the scene itself? Does it need more objects and stuff? I mean like a can here, a bottle and a shovel there and stuff :)

Isn't it possible to make the following: while the character is moving (the walk loop is on) if there are other clicks they would not be rgistered or even better - on 'left button down' the current frame number is taken and the other direction walk loop is started from the next frame number. This I think can be used for sprite actors, but I'm not familiar with how the engine handles sprite animations, so I don't know if this could be implemented.

I personally think that this is the last step that should be made, so the engine would become truly pro. It has everything else.

Black Mirror for instance doesn't have this negative effect.

What do you think about this scene? Do you see some inconsistencies, something that's not as good as it should be, do you think there are defects in this scene?

Please share your opinions, because I'm looking for possible improvements in the scenes of the game that I've recently started. This is a render from the first 'place' in the game, which I've made in Blender.

Since I'm not very experienced with WME yet, I would like to ask something. When the mouse is clicked somewhere in the current scene the walk animation of the actor is trigered and it starts to loop. But when the mouse is clicked again during this loop cycle, the loop starts from its beginning thus the actor makes this jerky movement. This happens both with 2d sprite actors and now with the 3d actor. Is there any possibility to fix this? Maybe with a script?

Really cool!

Really? Then they must have used a lot of frames. I noticed that the main character animations were not as perfectly smooth as real 3d, but they are very nicely made and the shadow is transparent. As for the NPCs, it's obvious that they're sprites.

It's not obligatory to have bad graphics in an amateur adventure, of course. I personally want to achieve quality graphics too. But creating an adventure is a lot of work, and sometimes there is only one creator, so its impossible to make everything high quality. And you can enjoy an adventure (even every other genre, too) even with bad art, because the gameplay or the story is that good. So if you can create good graphics, go for it of course. But there will be lots of adventure fans who will play nice little games with bad graphics too

Yes, I agree with that. One problem with amateaur adventure developers is that they always hurry to release their game. Why all the hurry? I know how time-consuming good graphics are, but if you have created a strict plan that spans for several months or more, making those little details that make a game really attractive could become quite enjoyable.

I think that, after the 3d character option gets released, wintermute will give us possibilities for creating games of the quality of Black Mirror for instance (wonderful game btw), so the tools will be at hand and only more perseverance will be needed for creating such a high quality.

I don't think that if a game is 'amateaur' it should have bad graphics. I know that this is the case for most games of this type, but I think that this should change and I'm trying to do just that in the game I've started.

very cool game, no doubt

nice graphics, nice sounds and good story

the only thing that is a bit annoying is the cursor, it just doesn't complement to the nice background graphics

but overall, great effort and fine results ::rock
