Game announcements / Re: Dirty Split - Announcement (image heavy)

Thank you very much, that's really flattering :D

I'm glad you're having fun with the game, and I'm even more happy if it helps in drawing more (well-deserved) attention to WME. I'd love to see you finding the inspiration to create your dream game through this. :)
However, I hardly think Dirty Split makes use of everything WME has to offer, so I don't know if it's such a good showcase piece for the engine. An eyecatcher maybe, one of many, but there are far more advanced projects that implement many more of WME's features (such as 3D actors).

Anyway, thank you for your nice comment. It's feedback like this that makes me think it was worth spending all this time on this project :)

Dirty Split 2 maybe?
Actually, no. Not yet, anyway.

I have an idea for a scifi/mystery game, which will be a lot more ambitious and also more serious. Something radically different from Dirty Split, although it will still be a story-centered adventure game, no doubt.
But right now I'm concentrating on promoting Dirty Split and getting the word out. And I'm really happy about all that positive feedback :)

I hope you like it :)

I'm really surprised that I haven't received a single bad review yet, everyone seems to love the game. I would have expected far more harsh critique. And I'm really happy to see that 99% of the players seem to play all the way through to the end - even adventure newbies and people who don't have the time or patience to finish a full-blown game. I'm curious whether the stream of positive feedback will continue after Dirty Split has hit the major game magazines and websites.

Anyway, the English version is on its way and should be out soon. The German version is already available at http://www.dreamagination.org/ .

Here you go - it's the intro sequence to the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAhGIC55Vuc

This will be the last preview before I release the game. I'm still very curious to find out how it will be received :)

Feature requests, suggestions / Re: Camera Interactivity

Whats this Overclocked game you speak of? Link?

This is Overclocked: http://www.overclocked-game.de/
And here's an english preview: http://adventuregamers.com/article/id,641

As far as I remember though, the camera movements and effects in Overclocked are not real-time. They're all pre-rendered movies with the 3D characters moving on top. The same goes for the zoom effects.

Actually, they're free for commercial use, too.

Can I use Express Editions for commercial use?
Yes, there are no licensing restrictions for applications built using Visual Studio Express Editions.

Technical forum / Savegame thumbnails
« on: March 08, 2008, 12:16:05 PM »
I have savegame thumbnails activated for my project, and it works like a charm with one exception. When you overwrite a previous savegame everything but the thumbnail is updated. The thumbnail retains the old image no matter how often you save over it. However, if the game is restarted (i.e. quit and started up again) the correct thumbnails are there. Is there some caching going on that I need to deactivate?

I'm using static controls for the thumbnails and fill them with via savegame:x. As the savegames are in a scrolling list and the static controls are updated perfectly while scrolling, I don't think that this is the problem:
Code: [Select]
thumb = self.GetControl("thumbnail_" + (i+1));
thumb.SetImage("savegame:" + (ScrollOffset+i));

I tried the Game.StoreSaveThumbnail() and Game.DeleteSaveThumbnail() methods, but they don't fix the caching problem.

How can I deactive the cache or reload the thumbnails everytime the save / load screen pops up?

Game announcements / Re: photography game

Great photos... I like the general idea, too.

There are several independent and commercial games that use still photographies as backgrounds, usually from a first person perspective. For example The Oracle (independent) or A quiet weekend in Capri (commercial). Or the german game Timanfaya (also independent) where the creator uses some of his holiday photos and alters them to fit in with the style of the game.

Those are just the ones that come to mind right now. I don't remember a photography game with the level of artistic ambition that you're aiming for. Should be interesting :)

Hi,

my game Dirty Split is 100% playable now and voice actors are just waiting for the script.
But as English isn't my first language there are probably many awkward sentences and word combinations, so I'd love to have some native speakers read over the dialog.

Also, would anyone like to help me with playtesting and looking for errors (technical or logical)?

- Uwe

I've thrown together a video that shows a bit of the creation process behind one of the screens: http://www.dreamagination.org/

Hope you'll enjoy it :)

@Pixelschmied
