Title: Sprite sheet
Post by: Anto0085 on November 23, 2011, 09:24:03 PM
Hello,

I'm a newby, I try to use Wintermute Engine for the fun, But I already have a question : Can I use a sprite sheet? or Must I use a lot of small pictures for my character animation?

If I can do a sprite sheet, how can I use it?

Thank

Best regards

As far as I know, a sprite sheet won't work, as sprites are usually a sequence of images. I may be wrong about this!!

But if you already have sprite sheets made, you should be able to simply use a grid/slice tool in GIMP or Photoshop to automatically cut and export your sprite sheet into many images.  I don't think it is more work than using a sprite sheet...

Thank,

With a sprite sheet it will be easier, because only one file, and if there had been the possibility to use sprite sheet with a utility that make automatically cut with a Interval X and Y informations for exemple, it will be faster :P

But We can't so effectively it's not more work in this case.

Is there a reason why WME or sprite editor don't use sprite sheet? It's only a question for my own curiosity. That could be, perhaps, a idea for a next evolution, isn't it? ::) I know, if every one who has a problem say that, It will never end. ;)

To be honest, I have not start any sprite sheet, it was just a question to know how I can start.

Thank you

WME doesn't use sprite sheets of the 90s because it has its own advanced sprite system for which you set custom settings for each frame (time, movement, sound, coordinates, events etc) and also have the ability to use subframes. Sprite sheets support is not the in plans as far as I know because having two different systems in the engine (one limited, one advanced) is not very productive and it will only cause confusion.

Ok, thank. Saw like that, I better understand. I'm still in 90s  O0

So let's go to work with systems, that, WME purpose to me ;)
