WME sources discussion / Re: skinmeshhelper error on compile
« on: May 21, 2012, 01:21:45 PM »
Hey there.

May I ask why you are compiling WME? Did you make any changes do the Sourcecode, or do you want to make any changes?

Another thought: I think that picture is really really bad for a game, for a simple reason. When the Char is in on the left side of the scene, he has to be scaled up to fill nearly the complete height of the screen. I think that will look really odd.

You can make another region on top of the stairs left, and use other scaling options while actor is in that region to avoid that the actor is getting very small while walking up the stairs.

Was it WME Lite?  I dunno. There was something about some SDK that did not compile with the express version...

As far as I know you cannot compile WME with Visual Studio Express, because of the limited functionality. You need the full Visual C++ at least, or am I wrong?

Since it's not possible by default with WME, only thing I could imagine is that they load animations one-by-one instead of using the actor file, and after each animation / sprite / etc loaded they update a graphic as progressbar.

I think you got something totally wrong here.

WIntermute Engine is a tool which is created for ( but not limited to ) creating adventure games. You don't need any kind of Programming Language. Only the WME Script Language itself, which is explained in the demos, WME's online help and the wiki. You won't find any book about it in your store.

What you can download here too, is the source code of WME. You only need it if you want to change the Engine, but you absolutely don't need it to create Adventure games.

So yes, you bought the wrong book for this purpose ;)

You don't need anything installed to develop WME Games. You should read the wiki. WME has it's own scripting language. Visual Basic is something completely different.

Maybe you should put a screenshot on here, to let us see what you mean with jagged and bad.

Surely, not every truetype font is actually good for using it in an Advenuter, but using some layers and stuff cam make them good looking

Oh and your Installer has an error ( tested only on Win 7 ) :

The Start menu link to your game does not work because the working directory is not set to the directory where the .exe file is. because of that windows is complaining about dlls missing. if you launch the .exe directly, everything is fine.

Nice one. If you wanna add german Language, drop me a mail at spellbreaker@apeironstudios.com :)

But I guess it should be possible to do myst 3/4 like games (360° Panorama view ) too, or am I wrong?

59
Don't get me wrong, I really like that workaround, since it's used in some WME Games already, but I think it's quite pointless to work on that method since WME2 is to support full 3D ;) But nice Example anyway! :)

Technical forum / Re: screen scroll
« on: April 28, 2012, 04:56:49 PM »
I don't know. In our current Project, we scroll scenes when the actor is at a certain point ( e.g. actor can walk around without the scene scrolling, only if he gets too far to the right for example, the screen scrolls ). It's in 1280x800 and the scrolling is the same in fullscreen and in windowed mode. We did not change any of the scrollspeed parameters. So I don't know what the problem is in your case.

(Just for info: On my graphics card the windowed version runs with ~1500 FPS, in fullscreen it's vsynced ( 60 FPS ) )
