I am using an old laptop for the next couple of months, at least, until I can afford a nice P4 3-D accelerated one from Dell. This thing does not have 3-D Acceleration, even with DX8. Hardware is just plain to old. Is there anyway to turn 3-D Acceleration support off so that the Demo game will quit crashing and informing me that I do not have 3-D acceleration?

If the video card doesn't support 3D accleration, WME won't allow you to select the option in the first place. If you are able to turn it on, then the card reports it *can* use 3D acceleration. There's not much a can do about that...
You can turn it off manually in the settings window, though.
