General Discussion / Just Starting Out My Bad
« on: April 29, 2010, 07:22:43 PM »
Good day fellow creators and gamers

I joined back in 2005. I wanted to make a game but didn't have a clue on how to start out. I tried Wintermute but couldn't get the hang of the code. Well I'm back again and this time I'm going to give it a good go.

I just released my first game called Incident At Roanoke. I wish I could have released it with this engine, I would have had less nightmares to deal with. I had to leave out a very valuable puzzle because no one knew how to script it. Towards the end nothing would work right at all no matter what I did.

Well I want to start working on my next game game which is a 1st person game called Terror Within Hawk Manor. I want to use the Wintermute engine because it is the most stable engine out there. I feel that I've learned enough about code over the years that I should be able to get the hang of it. I sure hope so. A lot of people are looking forward to my next game and I'd like it to be a better quality than Roanoke was.

I hope everyone don't mind me being a pain in the lower extremities, I've been known to have that reputation.  Well I'm off, I look forward to working with everyone here. Take care

I'm wondering if DazStudios or Bryce might help you at all. DazStudios is free but you have to join their site. You can get Bryce 5.5 for free also I think it's still available. If you want to check it out here is the address:

http://www.daz3d.com/

You can get lots of freeies for the program from a lot of free sites. You might find it an easier way of creating characters, plus if you join their site they send you free models every week. It might be worth checking out. If you are strapped for cash you can always try the free programs like Gimp, Blender or Milkshape and for animation there is a little free program called Creatoon. Hope this helps.

Hello Everyone,

It's been awhile since I've been on here, wow, what a change. It looks really nice. Seems everyone is busy these days making changes and upgrades. If anyone is interested there is a new site over at:

http://paranoiagames.uk.to

If you ask they will put a forum up for your engine. I'd love to do a game with Wintermute sometime, but I'm a bit intimidated by your script. I played the game Dead City, it was pretty good. I liked the graphics especially. Well I'm outta here, take care everyone.

Game design / Re: 3D Rendered Scenes, which progam is easiest?

I'm wondering if a program called IMSI Floorplan 3d would help you. You can make houses, rooms outdoor landscapes with it. It has an excellent tutorial that is very easy. You may want to hop over to

http://www.imsisoft.com

They have free trial versions. The new Floorplan v10 has a virtual movie walkthrough. I don't know how that works. Haven't had the chance to try that out yet. Just a thought.

Hi All

I am a customer of Daz Studios and if you have Photoshop you can render your Victoria or Michael characters in Daz, save as a png files and then pull them into Photoshop and dress them up using the lasso tool. If you can get your hands on the Graydiant tool you can add pleats to dresses. There are tutorials on Daz's website on how to dress up their characters using Photoshop and various other programs. You can also add hair using photoshop  as well. There are a number of brushes out there made by people you can also use that are free to download. Hope this helps.

Software and games / Re: Blitz Backdrop???

Hi texmurphy

Thank you for the info on Blitz Backdrop. I'm totally ignorant when it comes to languages. I tried to learn C++ but no luck. I'm basically looking for an engine that doesn't use script at all. I hear that the Adventure Maker is good for that. I finished the WME tutorial and liked it very much, but again script is a big problem for me. It seems that the books that are out doesn't offer much help unless you already know something about languages. If you hear of a C++ for the dummy lower than a dummy give me a hollar. Thanks again for the info. Later

Hi odnorf,

Thanks for the info. Actually I'm studying wme at the moment along with Point & Click Development Kit. I didn't know Blitz was like wme, I thought it was sort of like Bryce where you can make your own characters and such. But if it's like wme I may as well stick with this. I enjoy working with wme. Thank you once again, I appreciate the input. Have a good day :)

Software and games / Blitz Backdrop???
« on: July 08, 2005, 05:34:44 PM »
Hi all,  I don't know if this is a stupid question or not, but is Blitz Backdrop worth buying. I had a look at the demo but it didn't offer much in the way of hands on like most demos. But before I start putting out money on something that I might not enjoy I was wondering if someone who is using it could give me some info. It's cheap enough but still if there is something even better out there that's worth the money, maybe I'd go with that. Any advice? Thanks :)

Oh, great I got it now. This is fantastic I actually know what you're talking about. I would never try to use a program like this  on my own because I thought it would be so complicated. I actually enjoying it so much I'm almost addicted to it. I greatly appreciate the help, thank you both once again. :)

Ok, bare with me I'm newbier than a newbie so all this is way over my head. I'm at step 9 of the tutorial
My script says

on "LeftClick"
actor.GoToObject(476, 601)
Game.ChangeScene("scenes\menu\menu.scene");

The error when I start My scene say: Script complier error. View log for details. So I'm guessing I screwed the script up somehow. The only lines that exist in my door script are those three

For the co-ordinates I got about six different ones. I took Molly and placed her in front of the door with the actor placement tool. Like I said I have nothing but time on my hands I'm thinking of starting the tutorial over again because I think there might have been some things I've missed. Everything up to this point has been a breeze. I don't really like to continue leaving errors behind, that is not a good way to learn. I greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

Hi, goodday/night

I just finished the tutorial and I'm stuck already. I think I may have screwed up the script somehow. Once I managed to get Molly to go to the door, actually I think she went out the door because the screen went black. But now I can't get her to go to the door again. I deleted everything in the ready made script and I just have 3 lines.
on(Leftclick)
GoToObject(###, ###)
Game.GameScene("scene\menu\menu.??)
Can't remember the rest. Little help please. How do I get Molly to walk to the door
