Thanks for the info and links, metamorphium, I understand how it all work a bit better now. I just found out one of my tutors at college has Cubase 4 as well as access to several instrument libraries and she's said she will help get me started. This all seems such a far cry from jotting down a score in my notebook but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it in the end.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this so sorry if it needs to be moved.

For a while I've been looking for a program that I can use to write music for a game I'm working on. I've searched these forums an others but I've not found anything quite suitable yet. Ideally I would like a program that would let me write my music either in tabs or sheet music and then let me select the instruments to play it, kind of like Guitar Pro but with an end result that sounds more realistic and less MIDI.

I've tried a few demos, Sonar, Reason and a couple of others which seemed similar but I'm kinda in over my head with them and I don't know what I'm doing. At first glance they seem very counter intuitive, but maybe that's just me. I don't have a microphone so I need something with instruments built in or downloadable.

Is there any software that can do that or do I need to learn to use (for example) Reason? If the latter is the case can anybody recommend which program would be best and maybe point me in the direction of some tutorials.
