Strange Change is a small game I've been working on. It's a parody of Dr. Who

Hmm, at some point, after a few puzzles, there are no more possible actions. Is this expected behaviour, or am I just blind? ... I'll do further investigation ;-)
/EDIT: I was blind, or better: blinded by the fact that leaving the screen to the RIGHT makes you walk into the next screen from BELOW ... kinda unintuitive ;-)
-
This is very humorous but I'm stuck. Could someone pm me the way to get the piece that goes in the puzzle? I have a feeling it's the coaster but not sure and can't seem to get it. Hmm. Maybe I'm stuck like Sychron was?
-
Nope ;-)
I'm currently stuck at the puzzle itself, trying to figure out how to solve it without bruteforcing through 4^9 possible combinations ;-)
And for your problem: (Spoiler, mark to read)
Examine the rooms closely, try to remember where you found something and try to use it accordingly ;-)
-
I'm OK except for the accordingly part : ) I wish I could save! But I like the beginning so it's OK. :D
-
ahem ... you CAN save ... after all, this is Wintermute ;-)
-
Ahem...yo, I am a new Mutie...did not think to hit Esc button. : ) Now I can save but still cannot solve puzzle. : ) Every step is new to me...use Esc...name save file. Phew! Still want to solve puzzle!!! : ) Can you just tell me where to stick the horns which I put a bit of glue on? Would like to use said horns to tickle rat so I can get that dratted coaster. Or am I in wrong place?
-
If you have got a tickle rat, this means two things to me:
1.) You haven't found another inventory item.
2.) You've found an inventory item I didn't find yet.
-
I have horns which I shrunk and glue. I tried to use gluey horns on coaster when rat moved away--nothing happened. So thinking that I have to tickle rat with ungluey horns and then use gluey horns to get coaster. I would like to tickle rat at this point in his ratty butt. But that is not nice a nice thought. : )
Did you get the coaster?
-
ah, /that's/ the tickle rat ...
-
Could you be more precise? : )
-
Not without spoiling to much --> pn
-
So we are both currently stuck at the puzzle itself? : )
Thanks for your help! I think there should have been a hint somewhere about that worm--it was a little abstruse. : ) Who would have known?
-
Well, actually I first solved that puzzle and then restarted the game to figure out how you would normally be hinted there ;-)
-
I think if you find everything, it will sort of fit, but the key is finding everything. I pretty much figure everything in the foreground is fair game and I try to make fairly large hot spots on most items that don't stand out. Also there aren't too many foreground objects so you shouldn't have to slowly move the mouse across the screen or anything. Thanks for playing the game and the comments, which help.

It's very nice, fireside. I have some Dr. Who tapes bought on ebay so appreciate the references and humor. The graphics are well done.
-
Thanks. Glad you liked it. It was a fun project to work on.
-
So is there anything you nead to find for the last puzzle except for the tile whatsit complains to be missing?
-
I hope you're not finished, fireside, it would be great to find out what happened to the rat -- and it would be cool to have Sarah now that you have K-9. : ) Could not K-9 give a hint about the worm? He is otherwise not very helpful but extremely cute and faithful. : )
-
Fireside, I need a little help with the circuit puzzle--could you pm me the solution or some string hints? Thanks. : )
-
That would be hard. The circuit has to have wires going to each object, so if you keep turning things around so there aren't any wires going to nothing it will work.
Could not K-9 give a hint about the worm? He is otherwise not very helpful but extremely cute and faithful. : )
That's a pretty good idea. I'll have to think about it for a while, though, to know how to know a hint is needed, like maybe if some inventory is missing or something.
-
I always thought that was the purpose of the "assistants" in Dr. Who--to fill in the audience (in this case the player) on the story and to give a few hints as to what was going on in the Dr.'s mind. : ) I also read somewhere in a review of a recent adventure game that the reviewer really liked the in-game hints. But as you say, you'd have to weigh the necessity of the hint. I really liked K-9--it's a positive hook to get the player to identify with the little dog and rely on him as a faithful "helper"--so that at some point if K-9 were in trouble in the story, the player would work extremely hard to rescue him.
-
Ah, I finally got the circuit right.
@Fireside: You should try to make things more visible. Especialy in conversations, it would help to have different colors for different speakers -- and in the puzzle, the cursor hint is sufficient once you are able to actually see it, but it is is overlooked when moving to fast. Ok, on the other hand, the player should not move to fast ;-)
And: not every object is named, for example, the chair isn't.
But aside from that: nice game ;-)

Hey there! Played through your game yesterday, I really liked the frog-puzzle...it _somehow_ reminded me on "Impossible Mission" ... It was also frustating sometimes ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, I didn't really like the caption for whatever reason so I didn't name anything, I just used the gear cursor. There are a few smaller objects that I might should have made a larger hot spot.

Thanks. That puzzle was the hardest for me to design and implement, but also was fun. I spent the most time on it.

Great work man, everything was logical and I managed to finish it without asking or looking for help. There is one problem I had though and it's shrinking the horns. I have a tendency to use every item with everything and by doing this I found out that the horns can be shrunked down with the time machine. I wasn't told that the machine could shrink things so I just randomly used the horns on it and it worked. It was a flook, maybe a hint for this part of the puzzle would work better. Apart from that, fantastic work. Great art style, fun puzzles and humorous references to Dr. Who. I give this game a 7 out of 10.
Cheers ::beer

Thanks for that. It was a little tough on the horns, yeah. Clicking on it early causes him to say he doesn't need to do anything in there right now, which was meant as a little hint. I probably should have expanded on it a little bit.
