Exporting From Maya to .X
« on: February 23, 2009, 02:03:31 AM »

I use Maya as the tool to build 3D models, can anyone point me in a direction on how to export models and animations from Maya to the .X format?

I have tried CVXporter and am able to export a model to .X but cannot get the animations to export with it.

Any help is appreciated.

Also I need to know whether Wintermute has a default size scale I need to work to or if I can define the scale in Maya and work to whatever scale I want.

the M$ Direct X SDK kit has a few .mel scripts that handle the exporting of 3d / animation data into .X format as well as some DLLs these need.

look in
Utilities\Bin\PlugIns\Maya
Utilities\Bin\x86\dxcc.dll

In these dirs you will see the mel scripts and stuff.. install and use like any mel script and you will be good.

I think there may be some other exporters about if you look... I think the guys that make quest3D have an exporter for example... .. .

Thanks Jyujinkai for the quick response. Cvexporter seems to be working fine.

I have another question, before I start to model I was wondering what scale I should be modeling to.

For example, the source game engine used inches as its world scale. 1 inch = 1 meter in the engine. So if you wanted to model something that was 3 meters high in real world, you would model it as 3 inches in your 3d program.

What should I be modeling to for Winter mute?

Thanks in advance.

Since you are creating both the "world" and the characters in WME, it's entirely up to you what scale you choose.
