the "some ongonig project with irc/network plug-in" is our Zbang.
I have a dll that actually uses the IRC network to communicate with WME. it is VERY BUGGY .
I did it, so i know it is possible.
It have a lot of limitations, but in general multiplayer WME is easily possible with the right programmer at the helm.
I have plans to open-source my in the future, but not yet.
