SLUDGE 2.0 released
« on: January 01, 2011, 12:14:55 AM »

Hi, Wintermuters!

I'm proud to announce that SLUDGE 2.0 finally is ready. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the main differences compared to the old SLUDGE are:
  • Both game engine and development kit are now multi-platform, and run on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. (Yay!)
  • The graphics code is rewritten to use graphics hardware. This makes it both faster and better looking, with support for 32 bit images with alpha channels. (Yes, I know you've had this for a long time in WME, but it's new to us.)

For more information, see the AD forum post.

If you want to try a SLUDGE game, how about Deirdra Kiai's Life Flashes By, or my Frasse and the Peas of Kejick (special edition).

Happy New 2011!

Congrats. A new version of an adventure engine is always good news ::thumbup The multi-platform feature will probably be a success since it's something that people often ask for. Although today many people seem to be interested in mobile ports (iphone, android).

Congratulations, Trum. The old adventure game engines seem to be a dying breed these days. AGAST died a long time ago, AGS is no longer developed by Chris Jones, WME is in maintenance mode due to WME2 development, so it's nice to see good old Sludge is still getting some love.

Has Chris Jones stopped working on AGS? That was news to me.

It's discussed here. I don't think he officially dropped the development, but he didn't sound like being able to commit a lot of time to AGS anymore.
