Is Germany a boring place?
« on: August 10, 2005, 08:06:25 AM »

Hi!

I´ve played quite a lot of adventure games in my life, but I´ve never played a game that had locations in Germany. I find that quite odd, because the Germans like to play adventure games and its quite a big market. So, I ask you, is Germany a boring place for an adventure-setting ?
Perhaps locations like N.Y. or Prague in the old days are more interesting?
Where does your story play?

Hmm, Gabriel Knight 2 was taking place in Germany, and it certainly wasn't boring (because they have Werewolves there ;)) But the truth is I can't think of any other game. Indy Jones and the Last Crusade, maybe :) (or was it Austria?).

Prague seems to be slightly over-used lately. It appeared in Broken Sword 3, Still Life, Nibiru, Vampire: Redemption...

Play Gabriel Knight 2 then :-)

And parts of Nibiru happen in Germany too, or? (haven't played it yet)

But you are right, there aren't many adventures located here ... don't know why. There are a lot of interesting places here that could give nice locations for various types of adventures, but then - places like that are in every country. Perhaps adventures that do not play in Germany are so succesful here because they feel like vacation to us :-)

I think the indiana j. took place in austria.  I can remember the films and this nazi castle in austria. I haven´t played gn 2, only the later ones.

Yeah, i think you´re right about the vacation-theory. I´d sooner play a game that has its locations  on an caribean island right now ;)

I think I´ll get my old monkey island game out :-)

All these new games are so depressing with their rain and snow effects  ::) (stil life and syberia an so..) :-)

Well, I just returned from a one-week vacation in North Germany (Lubeck, Hamburg & Elmshorn) and I can say that Germany is a perfect place for an adventure game.  ;)
