wme crashes : bug or drivers problem?
« on: June 19, 2003, 04:46:48 PM »

With the last 3 versions (including build29) I am experiencing some crashes. It happens after I exit dreams. It doesn't crash all the time but 1 out of 10. About the same time that wme crashed for the first time I have updated my radeon's drivers and the directx, so this is possible a problem with the drivers and not with the wme.

Text from the wme_crash.txt:

I have to add that it's not the wme interprenter (wme.exe) that crashes but the project manager (with the same log every time).

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 9000pro 120MB, and I am using the latest catalyst drivers (3.4) and the latest directx version (9.0). Is there anyone with the same configuration to test it please?

EDIT: I forgot to say that I think (but I am not 100%) that this happens when the project manager is "previewing" a scene, and not when the preview panel is empty.

Hm, so you run the game from ProjectMan, then quit the game and ProjectMan crashes? Do you run your game in full-screen or windowed (windowed, I suppose)?
I believe something weird is going on when one D3D application (the game) switches to another D3D app (ProjectMan) and the ProjectMan tries to refresh its D3D window (because there is no other direct link between ProjectMan and the standalone running game).
I can't say for sure whether it's a driver problem or whether ProjectMan restores its window incorrectly. Maybe it's a combination of both, it's hard to say. Funny thing the crash happens at the ValidateVertexShader function, since WME doesn't use vertex shaders... :-\

No, it only happens sometimes when I wun the game in full-screen. It has NEVER happened when I run the game in windowed-mode.

Computer still amazes us!  ;D

The problem is that I can't reproduce the error, no matter how many times I try it. It will always happen when I have forgotten about it! It's like the computer is playing with me :)
