« on: July 23, 2003, 03:21:03 PM »
Are there any Fallout lovers around here? If so, you might find this project interesting as much as I do :) I'm really curious how it's gonna turn out.

Software and games / NSIS - Nullsoft Scriptable Install System
« on: June 02, 2003, 01:57:09 PM »
NSIS - http://www.nullsoft.com/free/nsis/

There are 6 things I like about NSIS : it's light, fast, computer friendly, powerfull, opensource and it's improved all the time.

OK, let's talk about NSIS. I was reading the docs recently and I'm considering using NSIS for future distribution of WME DevKit (instead of InnoSetup). Although I like InnoSetup and I still think it's pretty cool, there's one thing that troubles me - the distribution package size. The problem is, there's lot of graphics in the WME DevKit (templates, demos). Some images are duplicated (or even triplicated). What I need is an equivalent of WinRar's "solid" archiving, i.e. all the files are compressed "together", using one compression dictionary. This will reduce the distribution size A LOT. From what I've read in the NSIS documentation, it's capable of this (I didn't test it though; I hope I'm not wrong).
Plus, NSIS installers look cool (just look at the Dreams installation).
Plus, NSIS s quite flexible due to the scripting language (I have to say, though, that I really don't like the language, it's pretty weird ;))

Software and games / Shadow of Destiny
« on: May 15, 2003, 05:47:59 PM »
I just got my hands on the Shadow of Destiny game and I'm really impressed. It's not a classical point&click adventure, rather a full 3D, keyboard controlled one, but the story is absolutely amazing. The main hero is murdered in the very beginning of the game (ow!) but he's given a chance to travel back in time, alter the history and prevent his own murder! And that's only the beginning, beginning of a story full of  time paradoxes, emotions and original ideas. Excellent manga-style character models, lost of side-quests, 5 different endings. I highly recommend this game to everyone.

Game announcements / StarBars
« on: May 08, 2003, 09:53:59 PM »
Okay, maybe now it's the right time to announce the small game we are developing together with ReWegar. It's called StarBars and one of its main purposes is to provide the other WME developers with a sample of a fully featured (short) game.

General Discussion / I need a small help...
« on: April 21, 2003, 04:37:27 PM »
Hello everyone, I've been messing with WME localization stuff. The engine runtime now can be localized using a string table. This way you can translate the settings window into a different language. Check the "wme_demo" project in the latest (025) build, it contains a string.tab file and you can use it to change the settings window labels.

The only string that stays hardcoded is the "Some of the essential game files cannot be loaded. Please reinstall the game and try again." message.

The user gets this message when there's something wrong. I'd like to include this message in as many languages as possible, so that WME displays it in user's native language. Will you help me? I know this forum is visited by people from all around the world, please write here the traslation of the above sentence i your language. So far I only have english and czech version. Thanks ;)

Also, I'm not sure if the localization works for different alphabetes, such as greek, on Greek Windows. Could someone try it, please? (yes, Odnorf, I'm looking at your direction ;-)
