Hi all,

A bizzare problem which started just a few weeks ago:
JPG and PNG files I save with photoshop appear distorted when used by WME or one of its tools.
Please take a look at the screenshot at http://oded.saar.googlepages.com/screenshot - it shows the template background resaved as a jpg using photoshop and displayed in SceneEdit).

I haven't made any major changes to hardware, drivers or video card settings..

Has anyone ever encountered something like this?
Anyone has any solution ideas?

Do you remember if this problem started after updating wme?
Also, can you please upload a jpg & a png that has this problem.

Oh, I have something similar (only much less distorted) with my load/save jpgs

What I said/asked OdedSaar is valid in your case as well. Can you please upload some of those files that cause problems?

Nothing special about it. Just usual jpg (24bit). I cant get screencap of this screen in wme but it seems that 0,0,0 color is getting transparent for some reason

Are you sure you don't have 0,0,0 set as the transparent colour?   (Check in Frame Properties in SpriteEdit)

it's not a sprite. it's loading screen... and there's no such thing like transparent color for these things, right?

That's not RGB but a grayscale image (just checked it) and I think WME doesn't support it. Convert you image to RGB and try again to see it this solves your problem.

Alas, stupid me doesn't remember if it started after an update... though my WME is up to date.

By the way, this behaviour changes, for example: a project where the scene's background looks ok in the ProjectMan, but distorted when the game runs.

I tried this jpg in wme and it works just fine in my computer. Do you have access to another computer to try the game? Are you using the latest drivers for your gpu?

On a different computer the images appear fine; I am using the latest drivers.
(please note that I've tried several different images, both in jpg and png .. mostly, png appears ok, but all jpgs appear distorted)

It seems to me that it's a hardware issue and not wme related (of course I could be wrong but I don't know what else to suggest). What's you gpu model?

this is behavior of corrupt memory on GFX card. I got this before and had to replace the card. Hope yours is something else.

Sorry it took so much time to reply, I contacted Dell support and asked the same question -
they suggested I run the Dell Diagnostics for specific video problems.  I ran it, and everything came out OK, including the video memory tests...

I reinstalled my GFX card drivers and DirectX, just in case...

Problem still persists.

Just a recap - this appers only in WME (and its related apps) .. it is probably not a hardware problem (since the diagnostic tests went ok)
and not out of date drivers or DirectX ...

Any ideas?

I'd suggest to run a tool like 3d mark (gpu) and memtest86+ (RAM) that will really stress your system. As I have already said the files you have uploaded work fine with wme so I don't know what else it could be if not a hardware issue.

EDIT: As a last resort, is it possible to temporarily change the gpu of your computer?
