Title: Open game - Some software help!
Post by: urufan56 on March 20, 2008, 11:16:10 PM
Hi everyone! This is my very first post on the WME forums. I'm making a open game with a friend and we decited to use WME as our engine. I've been using Blender for about 2 years and plan to use it for the game. The design is mostly done but I've been looking for a program that could create large low-poly terains that still look good...for my games worlds. Also remember that the project is an open game so I only want to use software that is free or open soruce. Thanks everyone!  O0

Hey man and welcome to the forum. I know of a terrain modeller that is used in the industry and is quite cheap. $300 for the pro version which is the best version, pretty good deal. The engine is called Grome Modeller, It's good if you want to pay the money. I suggest since your using WME, is to use Blender for your backgrounds aswell. WME can't support 3D backgrounds anyway, only 3D characters. You don't need low poly backgrounds since your only using 3D rendered pictures for backgrounds so that means you can have high poly backgrounds. The cheap way is to use Blender which is what i'm using. WME can't support full 3D only 2.5D which is 3D characters on 2D backgrounds.

Hope that helps. Good luck with the project, i look forward to hearing more.

Why do you need to create low poly terrains? Wintermute does not support 3D Backgrounds, so you have to use images here. And the images can be as hi-poly as you want?

Anyways, you could also have a look at povray and it's immense library of include files. Drawback: Povray will render images, not modelled objects. But as I said above: you have to use background images in Wintermute.
