Hello
I know that Wintermute doesn't allow me to change screen resolution in game. So, I got problem. I think that my adventure game will be finished somewhere in 2013 year. Question is which screen resolution should I select for my game?? Which screen size will be most common in 2013?? What's your opinion??

I guess it depends on whether you expect crappy netbooks to die out till 2013. I don't, sadly, so I wouldn't recommend using vertical resolution higher than 768 pixels.

What do you think would be good not counting netbooks ?

There are recent (in 2011) discussions in this forum about this. If you leave out netbooks then imo a safe resolution for 5:4 monitors is 1280x1024 (1280x960 for 4:3) and 1280x720 for widescreen.

1280x800 is my personal choice. tested on dozens of systems, works everywhere.

Indeed, I'm using 1280 x 960 on both of my game projects. :D The thing is I started considering how it'll run on several kinds of systems, and I'm a little worried that some PCs with different aspect ratio might get a distorted image or black bars on the bottom of the screen. That's certainly an issue. But I think that the new function "Allow desktop resolution" of the 1.9 version take care of this problem.

Thanks :D My graphics are 1920 x 1080 so I can always scale it down. I think that I will stick to 1280 x 720 but I'm not sure if this is good choice.

I think 1280 x 720 is a good choice for PC games, it's just a very small portion of screens that won't handle the resolution.

Hi. I work with small team making casual first person hidden objects. To cover most variety of screens (widescreen and non) we created template based on 1280x768 initial screen size.

where only green area is used for player actions and only this area should be visible at screen for sure - the other parts could be cut off or not , they are not used in gameplay.
So the picture should always maintain aspect ratio and fit the whole screen with no black bars (maybe except fullscreen video) - everything that outside the screen is cut out.
here i made some preview for several resolutions.

ofcourse cutting out some parts of an image is not good BUT - game developer have great option of covering most screen aspect ratios and some players dont have to see those crappy black bars just because they dont have right monitor :)
what do you think?
