Project Jane-J put on hold
« on: May 04, 2004, 08:43:35 AM »

Well, not so long after Sam&Max 2 has been cancelled, Jane Jensen's new project "Gray Matter" has been "temporarily put on hold" :'(

I was waiting all day yesterday for the big news Randy promised and I was definitely not ready for this. I assumed it was going to be *good* news. Anyway, it really saddened me a lot :'(. I was really looking forward to this one. I stayed late last night seeing all the reactions and also Jane Jensens's own thread at JA. How sad :(.

Some clowns at AG refused to believe and demanded confirmation from AG, which arrived only hours later (I saw it only today, as a matter of fact). As if Randy would have said such a thing without really knowing for sure...

Exactly :( Well, at least we know JJ is working on a new game and (hopefully) nothing can stop her now. Although I really can't imagine how are they going to fit a fully featured game into 8 megabytes, it's not a time of 320x200 games anymore, is it?

People tend to refuse bad news, I can't blame them in this case :(

I have no idea, though it should be possible if there is no speech in the game and if the game is planned carefully and executed properly. Not that I care very much for this option though, it's like going something like ten years into the past!

Well, I can't blame them either. It just seemed ridiculous at the time, even hysterical. Even now, some 24 hours later I still feel sad about this whole thing :(. Well, at least GarageGothic and his upcoming "Shadowplay" won't be having any competition now. I wonder if he's happy or sad now. Probably both, I guess.

Well, after completing the Five magical amulets trailer I'm not too convinced about that... :)

What do I know? Either they are planning for a super optimized-for-size engine or they plan for a lousy game experience. Either way, I'm one of those who collect games, so I don't care very much for a downloadable game. Especially one of 8 megs...

True, on the other hand, I do care for *any* Jane Jensen game :) Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait to see how it's going to work..

Jane Jensen has my respect and will always have it, but it doesn't mean I must like *everything* she does. She's now concentrated on a different audience (the casual gamers) and although it makes me very sad, I still respect that and her. I find it ridiculous, though, that JA and AG are covering this game as if it were an adventure, just because it is developed by an accomplished ex - for the moment, at least - adventure game designer.

Somewhat off-topic - some E3 impressions, Dreamfall is starting to look very promising, IMO :). TAC's lineup, on the other hand, is extremely poor for a company that specializes in adventure games... :-\
