Technical forum / Noise Filter
« on: August 27, 2012, 10:51:42 PM »
Hi guys,

any elegant solutions for making a noise filter like the Silent Hill games?
I was thinking of making the noise in an image editing software and animating it either as foreground layers or an animated theora video (with transparency), but it doesn't really sound that elegant.

Could it be done with the paticle emmitors? Or is there a more elegant solution?

Not trying to discourage you, but you won't find somebody with good skills who "is willing to work really hard" for free. You have to understand that those with good skills take paid work and those who are willing to work really hard for free will probably do it for themselves.

My advice to you is to try and understand a bit how coding works. It's not really that hard once you understand some of the basics.

Best of luck!

Ecerything is easy if you put a little time into learning how to script.
Anyway to make it left click only is not hard at all. But as i said above, you do need to know how to script.

Can't you just use actor.X instead of X and actor.Y instead of Y?

hi metamorphium,

1. That's great. I don't know why i thought those minigames will be repeated throughout the game. It's great news that won't be the case; diversity is good.

2. Yeah, the option to turn it off makes it a non-issue. It was more of an observation :)

Congrats on the game and the demo.

Before my demo impressions, i want to say that i love the idea of a different approach to an adventure game. What with the resource gathering and ship managing and planet exploration this game seems like a perfect blend of strategy/management and adventure game. That's innovative for the genre.

I liked the demo but two things bothered me:

1. The resource harvesting, the ship repair and password hacking minigames might get tiresome and highly repetitive unless there's some kind of variation down the road.

2. I didn't like the narrator. The voice is ok, but the tone of the narration is kind of bland. I turned ingame narration off immediately after hearing the first narration on the planet.

@jackslawed: your template is pretty great especially for people that want to make HOGs. I think you should make a new thread in the 'Scripts, plugins, utilities, goodies' section and share the template with the Wintermute community. It's kind of hidden in this topic (pun intended  ;D )

So yeah, great stuff. It really deserves a thread of its own, with all the technical explanations (or if it's well commented just a brief description) and the archive of the template.  ::rock

It is possible. Use an array. Also, read the documentation and the resources :)

Yes it can be done. You make a global var.
Then depending on how you treat the calendar, it can be done in different ways.

If you have a project and you feel WME has the features you need, start the project. The community will help you if you'll need it.
