encryption / protection of media files
« on: August 05, 2010, 01:37:09 PM »

Hey,
I'm quite new to this engine so sorry if this has been asked before (I tried my best to find it). What I'm wondering about is whether media files (specifically music files in OGG format) must always be included "as such" with the finished compiled game. We cooperate with a number of people who agreed to have their music featured in the game itself but, since they are commercial artists, would not like the actual files to be directly accessible to anyone who downloads the (free) game.

Anyone has a good idea for how to avoid this, by incorporating the music into the game itself in some way? We're aware that someone can always "rip" anything that they can play on their computer, but that's not a problem as long as it's not just a matter of the music files being directly accessible without any effort at all.

ogg files don't have to be copied "as is", it only applies to TrueType fonts and AVI videos. ogg files can be stored inside WME packages, but uncompressed.

Thank you kindly for the fast answer.  :)

So, does this also apply to both kinds of ogg formats (audio and video)?
