« on: August 21, 2005, 11:12:34 PM »

I found AT&T Natural Voices at http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/. AT&T Natural Voices is most realistic Text-to-Speech engine i  ever see . Take a look at demo  http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/demos/. Enterprise Version cost $69.5  :-[ :-[ :-[  include AT&T Natural Voice Mike16k and Crystal16k, Audio File Editor & Recorder, Audio File Merger, WAV/MP3 Converter, Batch Text File Converter and Conversation control.

I have heard about this some time ago but hadn't the time to check it out.
Can you create your own voices with it? Or do you have to buy another voice font for each different voice you want? If i got it right one voice font is pretty expensive (i'm not sure if this is correct but on wizzard's site it says Price 295.00 (without currency)).

As i said is a text-to-speech engine...you can't create your own voices. There is a male and female font for every language. You must buy every new font you want. Maybe the full version (all voice fonts) cost 295.00, Enterprise Version cost $69.5, include 2 fonts (male and female) for English language and some other tools. If you want to create your own voices you can export speech files in WAV/MP3 format and edit them with an audio editor (p.e Cooledit) to change voice colour, tone etc. The advantage of AT&T Natural Voices is the realism of exported speech, just check Microsoft Sam on your computer (control panel/speech) and ATT demo...

I personally cant see the advantage of paying that amount of cash for generic robotic voices over recording our own (non professional) voices or hiring someone else to do it  ??? ??? This text-to-speech engine does a decent job, but is lifeless, emotionless and certainly not good for a game character. Maybe for language lesson tapes or answering machines will be OK.

Just my opinion.

I think the same. Only useful for computer voices or robots, not for humans in the game.

You are right, and anyway if you keep looking in that topic you are gonna find programs free that use the font-voice (even MS has a speech tool), and some let you use controls to modify the reverb, pitch, etc... so you can create a lot of voices based on a single one...

well more like a lot of variations of the same monotonus lifeless voice, but as a robot, martian, etc...

Good for experimenting and to make demos of the final real voice actor

I suggest to keep digging and try it....

Keep us informed

Check what i just did without downloading/buying/installing anything
