Technical forum / Re: Small graphic on each screen
« on: November 04, 2008, 07:24:27 PM »
Thanks Spellbreaker and Metamorphium.  The sprite I can do easily but I was thinking of something more global--a window might be good. Don't know much about them yet but will look it up.  : )

Would be the player figure--the girl or guy experiencing the story, instead of the 3d walking figure.  Then would have to script the appearance of a different picture and fading of normal picture to show her hurt or dead.  Still working through WME book but beginning to flesh out a story.   :)

Hmm. I see Window Editor is the last section of WME book--getting there:  : )

Hmm. Lots of interesting stuff in there including something about inventory that slides out of a backpack.   :)

If you wanted to have a small graphic file appear on each screen (like the inventory box) -- is there a simple method to do that?  And be able to hide it like the inventory box can be hidden?

Technical forum / Skewed inventory objects and hourglass
« on: November 02, 2008, 05:30:30 AM »
Following Chapter 8 of the WME book online -- Our Own First Game --have learned some useful things but I have two small questions:

In the Street Scene, my inventory objects are too high up and a little too far to the left--they're not centered on the boxes.

I get an hourglass during the first scene where Molly has the long dialogue with her Alternate:

I have no script errors and other than this, everything flows as it should.

Any suggestions?

Nihil's artwork is really nice.

On that first introductory scene it would be good to hide the inventory--how and where would you do that? I would guess in the scene but where?

Děkuji za vaši pomoc.

It's a video device problem---installed Wintermute on a computer with a more powerful video card and no problem.

Am following the WME book and am 1/3rd through Chapter 8 - - Starting our first real game -- and -- I'm not having any problems!!!!

 ;D ;D ;D  Hard work and sweat in early chapters paid off as well as help from this forum.  So far, so good.  I can't believe the Dream Scene works perfectly!  It's so cool.  Molly splits out of herself and talks to her alternate identity.  Poor Molly, I know what's coming.  :-\

I got this message from someone who needs help---it's not the exact words but enough to give you the idea:

"I started with WME 3 days ago and I do now dialogues between actor, and second character (snow)
The problem is: I have this script for entity snow:
#include "scriptsbase.inc"

global Statesomething;

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
on "Talk"
{
GoToObject();
Game.Interactive = false;

// greetings
actor.Talk("Hi there.");
this.Talk("Welcome to my country.");

and its not functioning. How may look the good script?"

I'm not anywhere near my computer right now---can someone help them?

Metamorphium, it's better when I find my own mistakes but it's very comforting to know that you're there in case I can't.

SOLVED!!!!  ^^

The problem was in the book script--I thought the script on the book under items and in scenes had to be the same.

 :-*

What a dingcat.  : )  Halfway through--on to Dialogues!!!!!!  Phew!  The good thing is that stuff I had to struggle a little bit to understand before is second nature now--don't even have to think about it.  : )

I'm at the end of Chapter 6--

My problem seems to be that the book is stuck in the inventory.  I can't use it once it's there.

I still can't get Molly or Sally to exchange the book and can't see what I'm doing wrong.  Should I have "on book" in there?   I have "on book"  in Molly.script and Sally.script.  Nothing happens when I right click anywhere--is it supposed to?  Everything else is OK--no script errors but this is a real problem.   :-\
