1.7.3 performance hit?

Just installed the newest update to 1.7.3 and it basically cut my FPS in half. Same scenes no changes. Is this expected behavior? This would not bode well for lower end systems trying to run our game.  :o

No, it's definitely not expected. I was trying several WME games and none of them exhibited any performance loss when going from 1.7.2 to 1.7.3. Even though there were some minor changes to the renderer, they shouldn't affect the framerate.

1) Can you confirm the performance changes when going back to WME 1.7.2?
2) What framerate values are we talking about?
3) Does full screen/windowed make an difference?
4) Have you tested the game on different machines?

Old builds compiled under 1.7.2 still work at the "original framerates." If I could make a seperate 1.7.2 install I would expect it to be the same. Performance changed immediately after the update.

Framerate values we are talking about are about 1200fps in windowed mode down to about 600fps. Now that is not a big deal initially, of course, but I run our development on a fairly beefy system and the graphics are pretty bare bones right now. I found that a little alarming considering what we have planned, and we still need to aim for a "baseline" target.

Running fullscreen syncs up at 60hz for me as normal.

I have not yet tested the build on a different machine but can do so in the next few days. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. I am pretty curious.

Please do so, so that we're sure. Just install the 172 update linked above.
One thing that changed is that the "troubleshooting options" were removed. Which means that games previously using 16 bit textures are now always using 32 bit textures.

Well I ran the update (I couldn't make a new install, it just immediately overwrote 1.7.3) and I got the same performance. around 600fps. Interesting. Would the fact it wasn't a fresh install affect anything? I haven't changed anything, there should be no reason for the performance to drop in half. We've always used 32 bit textures...Very confused! ;D

Ok nevermind...I'm an idiot. I had an errant process running in the background that was killing my performance. I stopped it and voila, back to normal. Sorry for the stupidity.  ::)
