Since a LOT of people want to get animations out of blender into the .x format (me too, btw), and I just happened to come across some info that MIGHT be helpful, I just thought I'd post it here:

With this script you should be able to export your animation, or at least find out why exporting fails.

direct link to script

Hope this is helpful to some of you. (btw, this script was written in July 2006, while the latest Directx converter for Blender states March 2006)

Have you (or anyone) tested the script?

Have you (or anyone) tested the script?

I have tested it out, yes. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten a working animation out of it yet, (but almost):
(I used the latest Directx SDK dxviewer.exe to view)

Code: [Select]
SAS: Loading effect 'Resource:#103'
Tangents and Binormals cannot be generated without a 2-element or greater texture coordinate at TEXCOORD0. Please use DXOps to UV-Atlas your mesh.
Binormals do not exist on mesh.  Attempting to calculate.
Tangents do not exist on mesh.  Attempting to calculate.
'' material 0 - No effect instance specified.
Reverting to the default effect.

I haven't been able to contact my blender artist friend yet, who made the animation. There's probably a few things that need to be altered in blender before exporting.

The guy that made the script claims it works with everything he threw at it, so it's worth a shot. I suggest whomever's interested to test it out and see. (read the blenderartists thread following the above link for more info)

(EDIT: minor spelling error detected and fixed  :P)

hi,

we tried the simple animation and we got it working. We'll keep you updated when we try something more complex.
