Title: Can I...
Post by: TwIgZeR on February 22, 2003, 06:47:02 PM
Hello you guys havent heard from me before but, I'm interested in game development and i was wondering(after I already downloaded the wintermute engine) What the best way to Get started making games would be.

Also i was wondering if you must use the mouse to control the actor.
Isn't that a little "Outdatted" not to put it down or anything but those games were soooo 5 years ago.

Another thing is could i make a 2d side scroller using the wintermute  engine?  I want to do something easy for the first time.

I also noticed that the tutorials were not complete wich leaves me hanging...

I just want to make a friggin GAME!!!! If there is a better engine for 2d scrollers please tell me!!!

Hi, well, WME is designed for point&click adventure games. I'm afraid it isn't suitable for a side scroller. You may want to check the "Scrolling Game Development Kit" at http://gamedev.sourceforge.net/ It seems real nice (although I didn't use it myself).

For pong or side scroller games I can also recommend Game Maker (http://www.cs.uu.nl/people/markov/gmaker/). It's easy to use (Point and Click) and has a powerful scripting language. I think this is the best choice for beginning programmers.
