Help wanted and offered / 2D 3D background artist wanted
« on: June 03, 2008, 04:34:01 PM »
Hi,
     I am on the look out for a 2D/3D background artist for the sequel to LIMBO OF THE LOST. This is a % of royalty position for the right person.
The backgrounds need to be in 1024x768 resolution and the end result is a static 2D image.

Other parts of the job will be for alpha masks and layers within the scenes. Approx 80 backgrounds will be needed, if you can construct in 3D using an editor like Unreal 3 etc all the better.

Technical forum / 2D ACTOR turning
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:16:31 AM »
Hi,
   I want to turn my 2D actor smoothly from each of the set 8 directional positions, but I do not want the actor rotating on the spot but rather do a natural walking turn.

Is this possible?

and how would I go about implementing it (not the animations) but the scripting structure.

Many thanks.

Thank you Alex ASP for your feedback, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The setup for the RUSSIAN release was done through G2 GAMES our UK publisher and not direct by ourselves.

and yes....................I agree you are deranged!

Hi,
    We have just had confirmation from our publisher that the game has been released in UK, web release so far, shop retail to follow and Europe. Also we have just signed a contract with a USA publisher to publish the game there.

Technical forum / Re: Water animations - any ideas?
« on: January 08, 2008, 05:28:25 PM »
Hi,
     Try creating the effect outside of WME by using this nice utility.

http://www.xiberpix.net/SqirlzReflect.html

Then save as individual frames and create entity sprites for your scene or convert the AVI to THEORA. Simple but effective!  ::thumbup

Technical forum / wme 1.8

Hi many thanks for the update and all the new functions. I have one question that may also be interesting to others, what difference to a 2D project would switching to 1.8 with direct x9 instead of direct x8 make?

Will speed be impoved regarding screen updates for sprites, scene entities, theora etc?

Technical forum / Re: Theora performance problem
« on: September 21, 2007, 05:23:08 PM »
Hi,
     I have used theora in 800x600 in various animations for my project in various scenes, no slowdown is seen at all. But you need to make sure no entity animations are runing in the background whilst it is playing.

An animated menu should be a breeze to do with theora, just remember to create the animation initially as a high end piece in AVI (non compressed) then convert to theora to keep the quality from degrading too much.

A 600mhz system is very low and to be honest you should be looking higher as the majority of users do have higher specs than this for normal PC usage. Your other issue is your video ram should also be of normal size, a celeron is very low for this type of visual., and if you are tryign to develope anything you should get a bigger rig!

Hope this helps.

Hi,
    I did this in my project so that the INVENTORY did not show.

Put this in Game_Daemon.script

// display the inventory window
var InvWindow = Game.GetInventoryWindow();
  if(Game.Interactive && Game.MouseY < 20 && !Game.ResponsesVisible && !WinMenu.Visible && Scene.Name!="scenename" && Faded==false)

  {
     InvWindow.FadeIn();
}

Hope this helps, worked for me

  else if(Game.MouseY > 140  || Game.ResponsesVisible || !Game.Interactive && Faded==true)
   {
     InvWindow.FadeOut();
}
Sleep(20);
}
