Title: Mental Repairs, Inc.
Post by: Eshaktaar on December 07, 2008, 09:10:46 PM
Hello!

Mental Repairs, Inc. is a short 2.5D point'n'click adventure and my first venture into using Wintermute. Maybe you remember me from another adventure called Murder in a Wheel (http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=941).

Mental Repairs, Inc. puts you into the shoes of Henrik Liaw, machine psychiatrist. Henrik's unusual job is to repair defective electronic devices with his mind by entering their psyche and treating them from the inside. For this he uses the so-called Katharsis Interface, a wrench-like tool that allows him to establish a mental connection with a machine's artificial brain. Ever wanted to talk to an elevator with a split personality? Here's your chance.

The adventure starts when Henrik's PDA receives an emergency call in the middle of the night. The main computer of Rhosonit Engineering, a nearby construction company, experienced a nervous breakdown and needs to be repaired/treated immediately.

Here are a few screenshots (click for larger versions):

I already released the game several months ago, but only now I managed to finish the English translation (about 1400 lines and a lot of graphical text).

You can download Mental Repairs, Inc. (65 MB, English & German) from these locations:

Mental Repairs, Inc. v2.0 (FileFront) (http://files.filefront.com/MentalRepairsInc+v20exe/;12580818;/fileinfo.html)
Mental Repairs, Inc. v2.0 (MediaFire) (http://www.mediafire.com/?mzim2mdzzew)

Enjoy!

Hi Eshaktaar, it's really a great game. I already played the German version a few month ago. I can highly suggest it to everyone  ::slug.
If I remember correctly this was your bachelor graduation, wasn't it?

Thanks for playing, everyone! I'm currently working on finishing my website with a bit of background info about the game.

If I remember correctly this was your bachelor graduation, wasn't it?
Yes, indeed.

Hey Eshaktaar!
Hey, there! You look familiar.  ;) ;D

Is the german version available too?
You can choose the language (English or German) while installing the game.

That was so cool!  ;D it had so many awesome ideas, very atmospheric and looked amazing  ::thumbup

It reminded me of going inside the link terminals in beneath a steel sky. very nice job, I particularly like the picto-man  ;D and the very clever colours puzzle.

Congratulations Eshaktaar

Congratulations Eshaktarr, thats fantastic work. I'm playing through it at the moment. Fantastic 3d work and overall very slick and polished design and a great quirky idea.::rock  thanks for sharing it with everyone.

actually I'm stuck at the colours puzzle, I don't mean to be rude but I'm worried that it might be a translation error thats stopping me
from getting past the puzzle. Has anyone got past that part in the english version?

Also sorry I'm a bit of a newbie and I have no Idea how to hide text on this forum. Anyhow there is no spoiler involved so hopefully no problems.

Well Actually I did use a walkthrough, shame on me!, I found this dutch walkthrough and used babelfish to translate to english.
http://gamesolves.prophp.org/free/m/mp_nl.htm (http://gamesolves.prophp.org/free/m/mp_nl.htm)

after babelfish It was still half dutch but It still gave me a few hints. the walkthrough tells you the solution to the puzzle but it doesn't seem possible in the english version. There are different names/options. So thats why I was worried.

but its a great little game, well impressed.

About the color puzzle:

If you've got the monochrome copy of the colour print, remember that the shades of grey on the white sheet look darker to your eyes than the ones on the dark wall. It's easiest to identify the colors by starting with the darkest grey and going up from there, i.e. the darkest grey on the wall must correspond to the darkest grey on the monochrome test print copy, and from there you can work your way up to the lightest shade of grey. There shouldn't be a translation issue, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to play through the English version myself, as I don't know the right combination by heart. ;)

Alright I’ll give it another shot, sorry. Thanks for checking.

BTW, this was part of a university production? after graduation what are you doing now, have you gone into a games company?

I found out I didn't congratulate you for this amazing production. Hopefully more such creative people would join the industry to make a counterweight to uniform production!

Here's to you (at least virtually)!  ::beer ::beer ::beer

What exactly do you mean?
The button is to show the hot spots, not the cursor. If no cursor is shown, the problem lies elsewhere.
