Vim is IMHO the best text editor on the planet. It has systax hightlighting for EVERY language anyone can think of, and has hundends of features (which almost nobody on the planet uses :)). I use it for everything on my computer.

It's coming from the unix world and ofcourse it's opensource (yeah, almost all the programs I use on windows are opensource :)).
Oh... and a few advices if you are not a unix-lover. Download the gvim package (vim with graphical user interface) and NOT the vim. Also use the "gvim easy" icon to start it or else I don't think that you will like it (unix users can be weird on they way they work). :)
Oh... and just for the fun of it... go to syntax menu -> show filetypes in menu, and check the various syntax highlighs it supports.

About 7 years ago I needed to edit some file on an SCO-UNIX machine. So I remembered a brief UNIX course from school and started vi. Well, I pretty much hated that editor back then, being spoiled by Windoze :)
This one looks much more usable for me though. Actually it looks very powerful.

Yeah vim is great. I've been using it for a long time and still I learn almost every day something new about it. The problem with opensource program is that they are very rarely "easy to use." You really have to read the docs to use most of the features, 'cause the usability is not very user firendly, atleast in vim. But I'm not complaining. ;D

Well, vim got it's name from the phrase "VI iMproved". :)
Vim is great in a unix OS but looks very strange in a windows OS.
This one looks much more usable for me though. Actually it looks very powerful.
The easy (means "insert") mode works very good, even for a windows user. To tell you the truth I am still trying to get used to it (after a few months now). The most difficult part is to edit the settings to fit your needs. There is NO WINDOW :(, just files with complex syntax. It's definetely not for newbies.

Really? :) I am using "total commander"... maybe I should try the FAR manager someday!

You should :) It rocks! But same as the VIM, it takes a while to configure it to suit your needs :-)

Hm... there is a similar plugin for "total commander" too! :) I think I am going to use this... I don't think that I want to buy a second program for a job I am already doing with another program (total commander is at least as powerfull as far, except that there a 7zip plugin only for far :( )
