Software and games / Re: Carrara 6 has DirectX Im/Export!
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:05:31 PM »
Sorry - mistake.

Yesterday DAZ announced that it was a communication error between the developers and marketing - DirectX im/export was planned, but didn't made it into the final release.

Software and games / Carrara 6 has DirectX Im/Export!
« on: August 03, 2007, 12:09:47 AM »
DAZ3d just announced that the soon to be released version 6 of Carrara comes with both Driectx Im- and Exporter (geometry, materials, skinning, animation) - maybe an alternative for people who still haven't found the right modelling software for their 2.5d project.

http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/carrara_5/-/? (People who purchase Carrara 5 now get 6 for free as soon as it's released (most likely during/after Siggraph next week)

Help wanted and offered / Re: Finding graphic artists
« on: August 02, 2007, 01:33:39 PM »
Of course, the thread is meant for all kinds of artists, not only static 3d :-) Animatiors, 2d, 3d, musicians, Sound/FX, writers ... whatever comes to your mind :-)

Help wanted and offered / Finding graphic artists
« on: August 01, 2007, 01:37:53 PM »
As a lot of people here are opening threads for finding graphic artists - with mostly no success, because the few that are here are already bound to their own projects - I thought it might be a good idea to collect links for graphic communities, model collections, single artists etc, where one has better chances to find an artist for his/her project.

So here are some:

http://www.cgsociety.org/ Afaik the biggest community for professional 3d artists
http://www.raph.com/3dartists/
http://blenderartists.org/forum/ Dedicated to Blender entirely
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/index.php The name says it
http://www.cg-creatives.de/ German/English community for CG artists

That's just a start, if you know more links, please add.

And good luck finding an artist ;-)

Game announcements / Re: Adam Syndrome - Announcement

Regarding the music, our own music is still work in progress and it wasn't ready for publishing yet so we carefully looked for an existing free piece to closely resemble our own. What you hear is not ours to take credit for then, but I assure you that ours is as good and, in my opinion, even better.

No problem, with "sounds good" I meant the story, not the music :-)

Software and games / 3ds camera and light export with Vue 6
« on: July 29, 2007, 01:33:57 PM »
Vue 6 xStream (maybe other versions too, haven't checked) exports both cameras and lights to 3ds. There is a personal learning edition (PLE) available for free at E-On Software (http://www.e-onsoftware.com/try/vue_6_ple/) which unfortunately renders with a watermark but exports complete scenes, so you could use Vue for 3ds export and render the scene in some other application. Don't know if that's really a feasible workflow, but maybe worth a try for those who don't want to use Blender and have no access to more expensive programs.

To export the cameras and lights you have to select them in the scene tree and then use "Export whole scene" in the menu.

@Daniel: Wow! Looks and sounds VERY good! Do you already have an idea about the release date?

(site works with FF)

If they've announced DirectX import and export, you can bet they'll have it as they usually don't announce upcoming features but we'll have to see if it is import/export of only objects and materials like many Direct X exporters or whether Carrara will handle bones and animation too...

The announcement was from August(?) 2006, so I'm not too sure if it made it's way into C6. I've asked at the forum, but didn't get an answer yet.

69
Yes, I found it, just got confused by the different behaviour of "export" and "save as" in Carrara.
Today they started a new sale-special for Carrara at DAZ, so I guess version 6 is soon available, which possibly includes a DirectX-exporter. At least they said that they were working on one in the forum last year.

70
Can you export more than one object at once from Carrara?

Edit: Oh, nevermind, I found it :-)

Technical forum / Re: Help with drawing different regions
« on: June 30, 2007, 12:18:04 AM »
Could you please post some screenshots? I guess no one has a real idea what you mean.

Otherwise my advise is still: Render the complete scene (with ALL layers enabled), then do a box render with only the layers that contain objects in front (and for correct lightning put your lights on a separate layer and leave that activated, too if necessary).

The screens look nice! Did it really become 666 scenes? ;-)

Or you just render it one time with all layers enabled and then do a box render of only the layer with the object in. That way you have both the shadows in the background as well as the separated object which you can use just like it is (if you chose png).
