Dage - New 3D Adventure Game Engine
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:57:42 PM »

Hello.

My name is Pauli Suuraho, and I come from Finland. I'm big fan of adventure games, and lack of free 3D adventure game engine in market, I decided to start developing one myself. Have you played Sam and Max, new series? Like the idea of full 3D point and click games? Ever wanted to create 3D adventure game? Then you would be interested in my current project, called Dage, which stands for Dog Adventure Game Engine.

Dage is still in development, but the goal is to make free standalone engine for creating full scripted 3d animated graphical adventure games. Let these screenshots explain the rest:

Got your attention?

Download the latest beta from here

I have no meaning to create full game with Dage, well not yet. I want to create relatively easy-to-use game engine. See data/scripts folder for examples how the game logic works.

Notes:
  • Dage is only an engine! So there are no editors! But scripting interface has been made relatively easy to use.
  • Dage is now actively developed. More people show interest in seeing the Dage finished, the quicker it will develop.
  • If someone actually wants to start playing around with Dage, let me know and I can tutor you and add features you would want necessary to create your game. :)
  • Dage is in beta version, so it means it is stable, but some features haven't been implemented yet

Thanks for you attention.

-Pauli Suuraho

ps. I don't want to compete with Wintermute in any way ;)

Sorry for not speaking English, but...

Hieno juttu. Tsekatkaa ihmeessä Dage. Voin antaa teille vaikka mesen välityksessä tuutorointia, jos jotain ongelmia ilmenee. :)
Vaikka ei nyt ihan täyspitkää peliä sais aikaiseksi, niin jotain näytteitä mitä Dagella voi tehdä, olisi kiva saada.

Kokopitkä seikkailupeli on tarkoitus pitkällä tähtäimellä tehdä, mikä ettei ihan kaupalliseksikin tuotteeksi. Toivon mukaan saadaan projektiin vähän enemmän väkeä mukaan, molemmat kun tosiaan ollaan pääasiassa mallintajia/animaattoreita, eikä koodipuolella kokemusta ihan hirveästi ole.

But yeah, looking forward to seeing how the engine develops! Keep at it.  ;)

Hmm, you should probably try to team up with Mnenomic to develop a common api specification, so the next generation of WME might be able to use your engine?

Work on wme2 has already started and design is different that dage (scripting, rendering, everything) with different goals afaik so this isn't be possible. It's always good to have more choices. (note: this is my opinion based on my limited wme2 knowledge)

I agree with odnorf. Although I'm not familiar with WME2 goals, I try not to compete with anything, but having two engines instead of one is always better choice. ;)

Four months of development passed and thousands of new features added. Well not thousands but at least too many.

Keyframe animations, inventory helpers finished, saving and loading games, plugins, verbcoin interfaces and much much more.

If you are interested, please join the forum. The fact is that more people are developing with Dage, more bugs they find, more features they want and quicker the Dage develops. Join the hype! Dage is here!

Yes it is. New release is probably coming next week, featuring 3D animation editor, which helps creating cool keyframe animations.

Hello there.

There has been little activity from me simply because the public interest has been very low on Dage.

Few days back I was contacted by mr. Reece, who said he wants to help to bring the Dage back to life and he made this new Youtube channel DageEngine with new video showcasing major Dage features. Check it out!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9Dg0f0peQA

He has also promised to create video tutorials and everything so please comment/rate/subscribe etc to make the Dage develop further!

Merry Christmas to you all!

Pauli, Dage Dev.

I think the video is pretty impressive. "Public interest" is not something you'll get overnight, it takes time.

DagePort.com - Introducing new portal for 3D Adventure Games
« Reply #14 on: February 15, 2010, 02:37:28 AM »

Greetings everybody!

Now for this Dage, I have also made a portal-style website called DagePort, which is dedicated for independent 3D adventure games and making of them. We have hand coded content management system, called DageCMS, and integrated wiki, which enabled us to provide services so cool you will melt when you see them. You can upload games, scripts, models, animations, tutorials and everything related to the genre of independent adventure gaming.

If you are good at modeling, we encourage you to participate into DagePort and making it grow so people coming there with skills of programming and no art can create games also!

Please for a few minutes take a look at our site and tell how you like it. I am very eager to hear to feedback.
