Talk "fade" parameter
« on: March 08, 2004, 04:48:25 PM »

This may already have been requested, but ...
It would be nice to have a fade parameter that sets the number of milliseconds for an alpha fade. Might be nice for credit sequences and that sort of thing. :)

Hi and welcome Marek,

This may already have been requested, but ...
It would be nice to have a fade parameter that sets the number of milliseconds for an alpha fade. Might be nice for credit sequences and that sort of thing. :)

We (users) thought about that earlier, but we wanted even more. ;) A normal fade-in/fade-out is quite easy, just a short loop which increases/decreases the volume with a delay of your choice.

But we (ok, it was me...) wanted crossfading between two tracks.

So even this is possible, it might look a little strange, but works fine and in fact most of it are just comment lines... and if you put it into some included file, you never have to look into it again anyway. ;)

Check this thread:

http://www.dead-code.org/forum/index.php?board=12;action=display;threadid=188

You will find some good advices by Mnemonic and a updated function script in the same thread, just try around and don't mind to ask if you encounter problems with it, I hope it's not too hard to modify it for you purposes.

Good luck,
Jerrot.

Hey Jerrot, thanks for the welcome.

Sound crossfading would be cool indeed, but I was talking about the text :)

Right now I'm using Talk for all on-screen text (narrator voice, credits, etc.), though I probably should start writing a method that makes a window at the bottom of the screen. I'm sure a nice text fade can be made with a workaround (using an animated sprite or whatever), but this is one of those things that are nice to have in there by default :)

Or an animated font as I have already asked for...
