Issue with sprites
« on: May 15, 2006, 06:37:00 PM »

Hi,
I have just updated to WME 1.6, and all is going well except when I go into sprite edit and look at an old sprite (that worked fine before) and then save the sprite and look at the SpriteEdit log I get the following: -

WARNING:Referencing absolute path 'C:\Program Files\WME DevKit\projects\LIMBO of the LOST\data\entities\GRUNGERasleep.sprite'. The game will NOT work on another computer.

I have ran this same sprite on another computer with the exact same path and it worked fine with no warning messages before I updated to 1.6 any ideas why this is happening?

Great update by the way..................hahahahahahahahahaha apart from this snag hahahahha

Yes, it's a little glitch. Opening a sprite in SpriteEdit is actually the only situation when the sprite is allowed to be referenced by its full path. SpriteEdit is just being a little too paranoid. For now simply ignore the warning in SpriteEdit.log, I'll remove it later.

hahahahaha phew many thanks, thought I would of needed to change the path structure for all my sprites then. hahahahahahaha

Oh by the way if you click on engine settings in SPRITE EDIT and then OK or CANCEL it crashes and gives the usual WME crash/windows message.

Thought you should know.

I am also getting a message in the WME debug log, I get

Error opening file "
CBSprite::LoadFile failed for file "

and it repeats and repeats but does not tell me what the file is?

Any ideas? is it linked to the same issue?

 ???

Does it report infinitely, or does the game run? Are you sure you're not refrencing empty sprite path anywhere? If there are lots of these errors, perhaps the snow script is to blame..?

Its ok I have found out what the issue is regarding the duplicated message, it was to do with Jerrots weather script, I am using it for snow and the entity of snowflake had the sprite name ommited, seemed to work before, Now I have replaced "" with the path of the sprite image and all seems fine now.

Must be to do with the new particle code in 1.6

Hi I have just created my first sprite using SpriteEdit after I have updated to WME 1.6.
and I am getting some weird results.

The sprite is large - 800x600 and quite long 16670ms and uses JPEG images.
When I run the sprite in sprite edit it plays no problem until the last 8 frames where the screen goes black and flickers with the red border.

This happens also in SCENEEDIT if I play the sprite there too.

But if I load the sprite up initially and move through the list to the last 8 frames and play from there it is fine.

Any ideas??

I have had longer sprite animations working before with 800x600 on last release of WME before 1.6.

Is SpriteEdit a new version in this version??

I'm unable to replicate that. Would you mind sending me the sprite?
Anyway, 800x600 is quite an overkill for animation frames. You should consider using video entities for this purpose.

If you mean Theora , I do not like the quality of them and AVI is far too big, the frames stream off the harddrive and are in jpeg format so no worries on size etc, it works very well on 800 x 600 sprites and sounds attached to certain frames.

When I run the game the sprites seem fine, and they preview no problem in project manager its in sprite edit that the issue occurrs.

Cannot send the sprite as it is far to big to send via email, but if you create a 8700 x 600 screen that is black and one that is red and create a sprite with say 100 frames or more you should be able to see what I mean.
Also content of project is under contract to a publisher so I cannot send any data belonging to the project.

Well then, I'm sorry for trying to help you ::)

It's not weird, you're obviously running out free video memory, because you're stuffing large amounts of graphics in it.

hahahahahaha sorry, No I am not running out of video memory because I have had larger sprites running before on the same machine with project manager open and also windows explorer etc etc, my machine has a Radeon 8700 pro with 256mb on board running on a 2gb internal memory. As I said I have had no issues with this before, also how can I run the scene through project manager and the sprite runs no problem. I do think it is SpriteEdit that has the issues here as I never had it before on older version.
