Technical forum / character limitation
« on: August 11, 2008, 10:48:48 AM »
Hi Guy's,

I have a static in a window. In this static I load different text from variables. Some of the text is too long, so I want to limit the number of characters that's been shown in the static.
I know that variable.Length show me the number of characters, but I don't know how to limit the number of characters.
Is there anyone out, who could give me the right idea?

It would be a nice feature in WindowEdit to limit the number of characters for statics and buttons, just like MaxLength attribute for editors, wouldn't it?

Thanks

A little bit late, but I think I have a answer for you.

I never come into the "LeftRelease" Event and it keeps scrolling the button after releasing
It's because the script is running on the slider-button itself. If you release the mouse beside the slider the event won't work.
You have to code the release also in the window script or in my opinion in the game.script

the button doesn't stay under the mouse cursor
Try something like this
Code: [Select]
this.X = Game.MouseX-8; (-8 in this case) it makes the offset.
Another method would be using sprites and make the hot spot on the right point.

I just read at Adventure-Treff that (some) backgrounds was stolen from the elder scrolls. I never play the elder scrolls oblivion game, but if it's true I really think it's very bold to sell such a game.

I don't think so... ???

...but you could search the internet. There are many speech synthesizers available. Not many time ago, I hear one with french accent.  :o
You have to convert the speech files (mostly wav or mp3) to ogg-files. Then you could add it to your string tab.
That's a busy continual way! I only recommend it for a game with robots, cause in synthetic voices is no soul.

Here is a link to the english wikipedia page about speech synthesis,

the german site provides more usefull weblinks

Have fun with the speaking machines  ::slug

Kannst ja mal in meine Musik reinhören www.myspace.com/mazeamaze

Short form in english: I like the art and would offer my help as beta tester and musican.
