Title: Hidden geometry and cameras not showing up
Post by: Barry Burton on December 18, 2013, 01:43:12 AM
I recently upgraded to Max 2013 64 bit. When I was on 2010 32 bit I had no problem exporting hidden geometry with cameras in my scene, now for some reason no cameras are showing up and neither is the geometry from the hidden .3ds file. Is only 2010 and below (possibly 32 bits) supported only? Because I haven't done anything different for it to not work here..

My hidden geometry is only 32 polygons so I know that can't be the issue.  >:(

I don't know, the 3ds format should be still the same. We talked about it at IRC and here are some tips:

<aJynks> Mnemonic, he may need to change to a 64bit plugin for exporting
<aJynks> oh wait it is just a 3ds file..... hmmm
<Myrm> maybe 2010 -> 2013 conversion  screwed someting?
<aJynks> Mnemonic, if  iremeber right wme reads point cameras?.. as in a target and a source? I think max nowadays defulats to cameras with out a target, so I would check that...
<Myrm> Default cameras do have target
<aJynks> Myrm, yeah... I would go though and check the names of the objects match the requirments, as well as the type of camera it is ... but 3ds export should be solid
<Myrm> exept "free camera" indeed
<aJynks> yeah free camera that is it
<Myrm> Pretty sure they aren't new
<aJynks> they arn't
<Myrm> still when you create a cam with the hotkeys, it's a targetted one
<aJynks> not when I do it... must have changed the defaults at some point
<aJynks> still worth checking

I had an issue where the cameras were not showing up, and that was because the camera was a straight on angle looking all the way top-down. For my cameras for wintermute, I usually just create a new camera from the perspective view. Also make sure for the geometry it is named correctly, like walk_plane or blk_box etc.

Looks like a cool game, can you tell us more about it?  ::rock
