Title: Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting released
Post by: Dan Peach on February 09, 2012, 11:44:05 PM
Hey Muties,

Just thought I'd let you know that my game Corrosion: Cold Winter Waiting was released today. Woooop!!!  :)

You can check it out here if you like: www.coldwinterwaiting.com

Thanks.  :)

Oh, and also, thanks to everyone who helped me over the years (especially Mnemonic) - very much appreciated - couldn't have done it without you guys - I shall make the necessary donation as soon as I am less fiscally challenged.  :-[ I shall not forget, I promise.

Hey - thanks.  :)

You can download the "trial version" from the Just Adventure site if you wish to try it out.  :)

Have just downloaded the trial and was shocked it was only 20 minutes long! By the time I had a good look around the time limit was up. It looked good from what I had a chance to do though! Could a demo with a set number of rooms be better, rather than a time limit?

Just played the Demo version a couple of days ago. Looks good, well done Dan!  ::thumbup BTW any chance to see "Restless" back once again, or the project is officially dead?  ???

The Game looks cool, but some points I wanna tell you:

- Don't throw your money away for gameshield, it's not worth it, especially when you use something like WME, it takes 1 second to bypass the copy protection.

- Instead of a time-limited demo simply create a demo package. It's somewhat annoying to download 400 mb data for playing a game for 20 minutes, which would take ~40 MB to download. (It's somewhat a common thing, I know, but it sucks ;)

Anyway: Cool game.

Thanks guys. :)

The 20 minute demo and Game Shield thing is nothing to do with me - it's just what the JA store uses to protect all the games they sell - the game will appear on other stores at some point, and they might use something different - up to them at the end of the day, rather than me.  :)

Restless is definitely officially dead. For now anyway. Maybe it'll come back one day. I removed it from the game list because I didn't renew the game's domain, and somebody else snapped it up. Grrrrrr!!!  >:(

Yes, I somehow imagined that. As a developer myself I know well that usually the publishers and digital stores are the ones who take those decitions. (The last "Carol Reed" game for sale on the JA store uses that same Gameshield protection.)

Well that's sad to hear.  :'(  Well, in that case looking forward for your next project...

I didn't mean my last post to sound flippant regarding the various "protection" schemes - rather, I meant that I don't consider I have a choice in the matter at the end of the day - they're gonna use what they're gonna use - I think the only method that never causes any issues is totally DRM free downloads, but the vendors, understandably, don't like this.

Thanks man.  :) I would like to make Restless, cos I do like 3rd person games, and I think it was a good story - I can handle the backgrounds, as I think doing 3rd person backgrounds might be easier than 1st person since you do them from a specific angle, but I just can't do character modelling and animation myself, so I'll have to wait until I can afford to pay someone else. I like 1st person as well though, so my next game will be another 1st person slideshow.
