Technical forum / Problems with widescreen monitor
« on: June 30, 2004, 07:59:53 PM »
I have just bought a new toy : an HP Pavilion laptop with a 15,4inches widescreen monitor. The problem is that WME stretches every resolution in order to fit the whole screen. Now, you can imagine the results from this kind of stretching  :P I wonder if you could think any solution to this. Adding black bars left & right of the game maybe? (Is this possible? Can a program finds out if a monitor is widescreen or not? I think yes but...) Anyway, if you can come up with an idea I'm willing to test it  ;)

Software and games / .kkrieger - NOT an adventure game
« on: June 13, 2004, 11:05:07 AM »
http://www.theprodukkt.com/

This game is a freeware FPS. What makes it unique is it's size.... it's only 96kb.  :o You should definetely check it.
Oh... and you are going to need a pretty new computer in order to play it.

Software and games / EFMI in high resolution :)
« on: April 14, 2004, 08:51:47 PM »
Wanna play the EFMI (escape from monkey island) in high resolution? Then check this : http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=4b099f0ea6fa68949a33b8b43a0a7cc1&threadid=126700

Most of the adventure players seem not to like EFMI at all but imo it rocks. And it has a great keyboard-driven interface too.

General Discussion / Expose 1 (web 3d contest)

Quote

It was the largest 3D art contest to ever run on the Web. Held over three months between 20 October 2003 - 20 January 2004, the Alienware Challenge hosted by CGNetworks attracted 1524 artists to the contest, of which 3876 images were uploaded and 146 emerged meeting all requirements for the final judging.

I suggest to everyone to buy the book while there is stock! It's amazing!

Software and games / Delineate - bitmap to vector
« on: February 19, 2004, 01:58:46 PM »
Do you need a tool that can transform a bitmap to a vector image and don't want to spent money for it? Then Delineate is your friend :)

http://delineate.sourceforge.net/

Keep in mind that it can be a little tricky to install it.

Software and games / Sodipodi (vector based)

Let's continue my suggestions of opensource programs with this vector-based program. It's not as good as CorelDraw & Illustrator but if you are not a pro, and would like to draw with vectors for free then this program is a great choice. I am currently testing it...

Software and games / Gimp
« on: December 11, 2003, 07:40:27 PM »
I guess that everyone knowns this program.

What's new for the windows users is that now there are builds of the development (unstable) 1.3.x version at http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/

Just try it. I am sure that you will get suprised by the improvements over the very old 1.2.x version. The only problem is that it's supposed to be unstable but it works just fine at my computer for the last month (although I didn't have a chance to "play" with it as much as I wanted).

General Discussion / Wait for me... :-)
« on: November 24, 2003, 05:34:12 PM »
Time is over. In a few hours I'll be in a &^#%$#*#&$^@ army camp. :( But I'll try to post from time to time although it's going to be difficult.

I'd really like to say "Thank you" to all of you for the last wonderfull full-of-wme-months and especially to Mnemonic and Jerrot.  :) THANK YOU!

So... don't leave and wait for me... I'll be back in one year.

But I can't close a post without an offtopic (TM) comment.
For the last months I was trying to collect empty beer cans and here is the result: http://master.math.upatras.gr/~odnorf/beers01.png     ;D ;D ;D  ;D
Then I tried to put them one on top of the other and here is the result: http://master.math.upatras.gr/~odnorf/beers02.png
But it's not easy to create a really tall tower so this is what happened:

General Discussion / How to Be a Hero
« on: November 19, 2003, 10:58:20 AM »
Brought to Us by Lori Cole, Mishell Baker, and Chagall Hannah (Brassfire).

Check it out at http://www.howtobeahero.com

(After the test check out the statistics. A LOT of people have taken this test.)

Oh... and...

It's a good thing I use my powers for good and not evil, because quite frankly, I could get away with murder. I'm clever, tricky, and charming. I know how to make you laugh with one hand and pick your pocket with the other. Not that I'd ever DO that, of course...

Software and games / Blender (modeling, animation, rendering)
« on: November 02, 2003, 12:22:00 PM »
Blender http://www.blender.org/ is a 3D modeling, animation & rendering program. What makes a difference in this program is it's price. It's free & opensource.  ;D

For old Blender users: There is now available a preview of version 2.30 which corrects Blender's main problem, it's UI.  You've got to try it out. ;D ;D ;D

Technical forum / Another question for translation :-)
« on: October 02, 2003, 12:43:59 AM »
It was a long time since I asked anything about the translation file of ProjectMan.... but, is it my idea or you have forgotten to add a string for the new "startup scene" attribute in the Debug mode? (Or the find command doesn't work well in my current text editor.)

Software and games / beneath a steel sky
« on: August 02, 2003, 11:54:54 AM »
I hope that you all know this fantastic sci-fi adventure game by revolution. Hightly recommended.

To play it on any OS you like just use the latest scummvm. (Scummvm 0.5.0 just released that has support for it).

And the best part... go at www.scummvm.org and download the CD version of this game. Revolution has released it as freeware.!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D There are still companies that respect their costumers.

(For everyone that doesn't know it, at revolutions site you can also find "Lure of temptress" as a free download)
