Actors from png images with alpha
« on: January 26, 2008, 12:01:08 AM »

Here's the thing..
When I create an actor's animated sprite from a sequence of png images
it looks fine in the editor but when I start the runtime mode game.. the sprite is almost all black, it is a black shape I would say

but if I set Opacity equal to 254 instead of 255 (by default)
for each frame of that animation
everything works and looks fine

why is it like that?

And please tell me what are the ways I can make transparency..
as far as I know there are 2 ways:
- color-keying
- and the one I've described above... that I prefer at the moment.. just can't get the idea... why it works this way?

thanks..
WME is a great tool... :)

hmm, strange. I never experienced this. Is it RGBA mode with 8bit channel coding? I use Png's everywhere and never ever had a problems.

Can you please upload at least one of the png you are using. Which program are you using to save those files?

For my first and present test-work, that I use to get acquainted with the engine
I've created the actor animation this way:

- I had a frame strip (vertical) in png
- using photoshop cs3 I've sliced the strip to separate frames.. to get the engine happy
- then clicked save for web (and selected png-24 with Transparency)

In the sprite editor all frames were visible and looked fine..
but in the game they were all black..

ok I'll put the test png frames somewhere today..

don't know....:(
I created a new test project
and changed the molly's right up animation... removed her frames and added my own - the ones that turned black
started the game and they played normally..

there must be something wrong with that first project of mine..
maybe regions.. or? scene
gotto find out

since the animation played fine the second time.. I assume it is right, thus there is no need for testing..

Most likely. Perhaps you accidentally set the region color to black in SceneEdit?

uha!!!!:)
yep.. you were right.. it was just the region color... I thought it was only for editor - to distinguish regions
They better change that label from "Color" to "Overlay color" or something..
phew!!!

thanks for help
sorry for bothering:)
