Technical forum / Sprites: Setting frame delay for multiple frames at once?

Hi there,
I'm playing around with rather large animations, where each sprite has between 60 and 100 frames. The advantage of having that many frames is that it gives really smooth animations. But is there a way around telling each single frame what frame delay it should have? Like setting the frame delay for all/several frames at once? In the last days I have done a lot of monotonous and repetitive work by editing hundreds of frames, only to set the same frame delay over and over again. I'm hoping there's a way around this?

EDIT: Man, how can a single man be as blind as myself? I just discovered the "apply to all frames" button. Works like a charm of course! :D

Thanks a lot for the ideas! Will test the thing on other systems and play around with layer sizes like you proposed, and then post results here.

EDIT: Tried making the textures smaller, and indeed the performance is much better now. Thanks!

EDIT2: I'm building and testing this on an iMac with an ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics adapter.

Hi everyone,

currently experimenting with Wintermute in "fearless noob" mode. Built a scrollable scene that has a resolution of 2500x720. (1280x720 being the general resolution of my project.) With 2 layers that I imported as png files (foreground layer 2667x720, main layer 2500x720), the parallax scrolling works fine and smoothly.

However, with the introduction of a third scrolling layer in the middle between those two (2550x720), the scrolling of the new layer becomes very jerky, while strangely the foreground layer still scrolls smoothly.

I'm aware that the png files are quite huge (most weigh about 3-5 MB each) and maybe that affects performance, but I thought I might be overlooking something. I'd really love to have 3 parallax-scrolling layers, and hope there must be a way to accomplish that smoothly with Wintermute. Any ideas what I could do/try?

Hi everyone,

just wanted to say hello to you all. Have been reading and lurking the forums a lot in the last days as I'm about to dive into the world of Wintermute. Yee-haw! I've just started working on an adventure game which I hope to have finished by the end of year. Now the funny thing is, that I have said exactly that about an AGI game that I started making back in 1999, and which is still not finished today... Hmm... At least we had 2 playable demos out back then, maybe some of you even have played it and remember it. The game was called "V - The Graphic Adventure" and attempted to unofficially adapt the scenario of the classic 80s mini-series "V" into a Sierra style adventure.

Anyway, can't wait to get my hands on Wintermute. Working on script, graphics and animations for now, so I'm pretty excited to start assembling everything and scripting soon. Optimistic that I will be asking a lot of silly questions in the process... Be prepared! ;)
