General Discussion / Re: Character Movement Question
« on: July 07, 2013, 11:37:03 PM »
From what I've done with WM I thought the movement wasn't to bad compared to 2D characters, maybe it depends on the amount of way points a scene has and a confined space could get abit choppy, its been years since I played Syberia but from memory she did a lot of long works and large areas
Also if you use 2D waypoints/floor it could change how the character reacts

Above all its down to how much effort the developer put into the character animation, its the hardest thing to get right, I haven't played The Art of Murder, but I'll take a look

In Syberia, more noticeable in the first one  I think there was quite a lot of dedicated animation, probably more noticeable when she tackles stairs, she'll halt, turn, stand, climb, its never a fluid motion.. Lara Croft in Tomb raider des a similar thing
If you just had the character climb it would be more float unless it was walking up geometry, but my attempt at that didn't work to well ::)

So has this been abandoned? Or a big reveal on the cards? I noticed the link from your siggie has gone and the site's in limbo
I hope its the latter!

You don't need to be a student, there's an "others" option.. I'd read the terms and conditions though to see if there's a conflict of interest
Anyway just an idea.

I imagine most of the exporter issues will be UI differences? I hope you can do it mate it'll put WM back in reach for the starving hobbyist  8)

Sketchup gives you cameras, free renderers such as Pov Ray and Kerkythea, Kerkythea will export animation
Autodesk do student editions of 3D Max:

SU to 3DSMax is very straight forward, there's a skp importer

is there anyway I can do something like this:

EnableFog; does just effect the 3D character or the entire scene, all I get is a black character :-[
I've tried using Zdepth but that doesn't work very well and I can't find anything apart from the few lines in the documents
I have particles working but I'm a bit worried about memory usage on lower end computers
Sorry about the newbie question

TBH I find the C4D export/importers a bit twitchy in general, not good considering the price and what you can get cheaper and free

I've had some luck using 3 files from Gamespace, I just have to fix the animation speed but I think it'll do the job:)
Well I suppose its time to try and get a scene together lol

Ok these X files are driving me nuts!, I have C4D R12 and I just get steaming heaps of goo when trying to get them into wme, I see by doing a bit of searching there was an exporter but it only works on older versions of C4.. bummer
Gamespace I can get meshes.. YES!  but no animation .... BOOO!

the 3ds is no problem at all even sketchup can do that, apart from lights I just use C4D to add lights
Has anyone managed to get X format files from recent versions of Blender, C4D or Gamespace/Truespace?

for some reason Vue's 3DS export was dropping the cube through the floor, you couldn't tell in WM, it wasn't until I went to render it in something else I noticed the model was messed up :/
Its a shame, it would of been great if Vue could of done the images and hidden geometry, the version I have is version 5 so maybe it does work in the new ones

Was there an updated Blender exporter? the only one I can find was "export-3ds-0.82" and I don't seem to be getting anything using Blender 2.49

I tried using Vue and I can get the geometry, camera and lights, but the camera shifts, I've tried the FOV but by time the box lines up to the image the block is very small

Sorry for the dumb question, I've tried searching the forums about the blender issue

Just out of interest can you use SU for the simple geometry in WM? It does export the camera in theory but doesn't seem to show in wm
