Game design / Re: 3d characters
« on: November 10, 2008, 12:46:09 PM »
Best way i found with Poser was to:
create a character in Poser, Poser 5 is about the limit, plus they only use one texture map, do your animation and save as a poser PZ3
open it in DAZ and export as a DAE
You need the ColladaMax importer for studiomax as the default Autodesk DAE wont work
I've never tried a Poser model in Wintermute I would of thought the poly count was to big but Poser stuff has worked in the 3D engine i use, Daz stuff tends to get screwed up, Poser 6 will work but you have to map them to a single texture, also lip animation doesn't export

I'll give Wintermute a try though and see if i can expand on this :)

from the games developers point of view i wouldn't of thought there would be a need for any hard core AS,its suprising what you can do with just timeline... so you could keep your hands ;)
and yes masking  ;D

When it comes to making application i have no idea how these things work.. I leave it to you guys  :)
BUT what could be done with timeline animation is endless specially if there was away to get WM to call frames from within the movie or likewise get flash to call WM events
You can do things like 5 digit codes on an alarm keypad without any heavy coding
Also there is a free program called liveswif than can do Flash swf's all be it only AS1

I normally do Flash games with Lassie but the next version needs Flash CS3 which i can't really justify the expense

I know it would be a big ask.. but consider the benifits:
Small file sizes
the ability to call frame animation
on movie hotspots
quality
loads of resource
special effects
oh.. and i could use it  ;D

AM already has Flash support, and Visionaire are considering it

Theres a open source project http://www.gnashdev.org/ that can be embedded into an application

Help wanted and offered / model help plz
« on: April 19, 2008, 10:11:11 PM »
I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with a character for a 2.5D game? I really suck at low poly modeling and animation  ::)

The character is Dizzy from the popular games in the 80's, so its basiclly an egg with arms n legs, something on the lines of this:

or if someone could  add animation to that model for now, until the game is well underway that would be great, just walk and idle

PS i do have permission to do a 3D fan game for Dizzy ;)

thanks

i'm lurking... i'm still undecide if to switch to WME or stick with what i know:
on the plus side

better walk area control
3D character import if i decide to go that route
commercial game possibilities
a lot more options in general
better tutorials

downside
curently i can do online games (flash)
Completely different scripting language
Just the thought of having to start again with another engine!
