In case of Scarpia there was really a problem with loading large pictures which should be fixed in the latest WME version.

Actually, the particular part of the problem that Jerrot is describing, wasn't fixed with me either.

Hey - you *are* a llama!

Joke aside, I was wondering - wasn't Zak McKracken made by some german indie game developers? Are you seriously doing a remake of an amateur game? It sounds like you should try to hook up with the original authors, rather than make the same game all over.

Just a thought

Disagree. Dis-agree. D-I-S...Agree. I'd like to see a challenge like: Two gfx amateurs, one has to create a mere building front, with glass doors, pavement, a few windows and a tree. He can use any software he wants, any set of colors, resolution 800x600. The other has to create the same scene in 320x200 pixels, 256 colors.

My money's on guy # 1, I can tell you that. Have you tried drawing LSL1 style? It is near impossible to get the color dithering and faux gradients right. With high res, you can use Photoshop or a 3D renderer, and all that's been taken care of.

Point still stands

I dont use the EXPAND_WIDTH method. I tried it with negative numbers, but that's no good with wide characters like m's or w's. There is certainly several pixels between characters as it is now, and the BMP is 1-bit B/W, so it should work.

If that isn't it, then I can't figure it out.

Hi..

WME looks really cool, I just don't really like painting at high res so I'd rather just stick to AGS for 2d games..

Are you serious? Low-res is so hard!! I tried drawing some supposedly simple Yahtzee-style backgrounds, and failed miserably - it's amazing how the people in the good ol' days managed to pull it off. High-res is much easier, you can do some easy stuff with 3D renderers and create shadowy effects using blurs and gradients and.... all that nice stuff :D but with low-res -- that's for specialists, if you ask me..  :P

PS. Oh, and if you don't know who Yahtzee is, shame on you!

Mnemonic: Heh, Notepad rocks. I use it all the time. It's cool to say I create pro web sites with DHTML, Javascript and ASP in Notepad ;)

Bf5man: my font started out that way too. Then I found out my problem was I created the BMP with a black background, and since the transparency color in the FONT file was set to pink (255,0,255), the letters were all too far apart. Altering it to (0,0,0) will push your letters closer together. HOWEVER, with my (rather large type) font, the letters are still too far apart. Something tells me the engine adds a number of pixels relative to the column width, and this function seems to be a bit too steep, but I can't tell for sure, as I'm obviously blackboxing here. Jan?

Well..... I downloaded the font program, seems nice.. But then I created a 512x512 pixel font and imported it into WME. Somehow, I didn't get a .FONT definition to go with it, and I had no way of creating one...??

{edit} i managed to make a new .FONT by creating it from scratch in Notepad and saving it in the project's Fonts folder -- but that's pretty awkward really, it should be possible to do from the project manager (as in, context menu on font folder, then add font - whoop - automatically a new .FONT file..)

I really don't want to get mixed up in this argument^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hdebate, but I'll post my two cents anyways..

About the gfx accelerators.... I, for one, have a computer w/o an accelerator (or perhaps it was just buggy, I'm not sure which), so I'm actually one of the people who experience problems with graphics acceleration, and I still think dropping the software renderer is the right decision. Sure, older computers exist, but they ARE slowly going out of use. I know that in a lot of lesser-industrialized countries, the older hardware will be in use for years on, but I'm not counting on one of my games to be the next world-wide adventure blockbuster, especially with a stagnant market for 2d point-n-click adventure games. I'm more concerned about the fact that even if my game is really great, chances are that very few will care (compared to modern 3d first person shooters or MMPORG's).

About MOD / OGG files: C'mon people, value the fact that WME already has good audio format support, and instead just go searching for a (quote) nice MOD library without licensing problems if you really want Jan to implement it ;-P

PS: Uhfgood: No matter how long you think creating a game will take, it will take longer. A lot longer :P

Well, I used Windows Notepad to make the default WME fonts ;D

You did what??!??

Ehm.. Maybe I'm just a tech nerd, but.... I'm really curious as to how you managed that!??

Hi again. I was just wondering. When I run in hardware accelerated mode on my system, the demo seems to run significantly slower than without. Doesn't this kinda defy the meaning of "acceleration"?

Actually, I've recently read about a plot idea that was similar to mine, so even if what I'm planning hasn't been done yet, it isn't entirely unique. Think The Mask meets Little Nicky, and you're almost there.

Yeah ok. Is there a setting in WME to force texture subdivision?
