Stucked in first tutorial
« on: November 18, 2010, 08:23:13 PM »

Hi all!
I'm very newbie in wintermute and in videogames development!
I'm attending a course of videogame development at university and i'm going to develop a Graphics Adventure with WME.

Ok, let's talk about the first problem, in the first (very basic) tutorial "Step 1: Creating the scene; introducing the SceneEdit tool" i've followed all the step but my background image doesn't work, and the run function too.
The screen remain black. It seems like my computer lack some features to run the graphics part of the engine...

I've tryed to download a game made by WME to verify my suspects and seems that game run...but there's no graphic...i only listen to the intro music and dialogs, but the screen is always black.
Maybe can be a problem of graphic card but i really don't know how to fit it...i'm using windows 7 home premium (64-bit) with nvidia 310M (but seems that the engine uses the integrated intel graphic card)

Anybody can help me?
Thank you very much!

You should deactivate the integrated graphicscard in bios or / and in windows Device Manager to avoid such problems. If yo want to use both, make sure which screen e.g. Graphics Card is your Primary Display.

Also make sure to download latest nvidia Drivers from the NVidia Website.

Then, check again ;)

Sincerly,

Somehow I doubt the game is using a different video adapter. In any case, the settings window at startup will list all available video adapters and lets you choose which one you want to use.
What if you run the game in windowed mode?

Thank you for reply!
Seems that my graphic card is ok, but in WME there's something wrong.

When i run my scene, the setting window list only the intel HD Graphics...the display is black in windowed mode, if i try to run in full screen windows stucks and i need to reboot...

Black window means the game wasn't able to run scripts. There are details in the debug console and in the wme.log file in the project folder.
Since you are using Windows 7, please make sure the project folder is NOT inside "Program Files". If it is, move it elsewhere (Win7 in combination with User Account Control will prevent any changes to the project if it's located inside the Program Files folder).

I've tryed to disable my integrated graphic card:
the dedicated doesn't auto-activate, but in WME now i can display backgrounds and other features in the screen...obviously WME display some error message that advise me for the need of 3D acceleration...maybe we're close  :)
Any idea?

Thank you for your replies!

Well, problem resolved :D

I re-install my video card driver, but with the option "clean install" activated, now seems everything work.

See you soon at next problem :P

P.s.
Mnemonic, your work is great, congratulations!
