Moving video background?
« on: June 03, 2008, 08:41:46 PM »

I recently played Parasite Eve2 and was kind of impressed how they did moving background. It's here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc0oCiFq3Uc starts at 6:45.
So is it possible to create in WME?
I suppose that characters aren't really moving there, only bg video are playing forward/back in depend of what button pressed?

That looks like real-time 3D with moving camera. WME is a 2.5D engine.

It's 2.5D game. That's video background for sure... Or You think that PS one can handle that graphics? :)

To tell you the truth, the graphics look so old (at least in this low resolution video) that I'm sure PS can have those kind of real-time 3d graphics. But since I haven't played it I believe you. So it's a 2.5D game. WME would require to have a scriptable camera and a way to play backwards a video to be able to do something similar. I'm afraid it's not possible at the moment.

I played those games and they are definitely 2.5D. Final Fantasy VIII used a similar technique in certain spots where they combined the gameplay movement with a moving prerendered video background.

maybe there's some way to use special character that won't move actually, but if it was possible to play two videos at the bg. Y'know like when character is moving to show video A and when he's stops to hide video A and show video B.... but it'll take a lot of cpu power i guess
