Game announcements / #GameDevelopers now on starchat
« on: January 27, 2005, 12:41:16 AM »
Yep you heard right.  We're now on the same network that #wme is.  So all you people who like to chat on irc about wintermute can also come in chat in my channel about anything to do with game development, including adventure games in general :-)  If you would like to chat, just connect to irc.starchat.net and go into #GameDevelopers

Game announcements / Not that anyone would care but...
« on: November 17, 2004, 12:13:05 AM »
Well, i'm hopefully going to be doing something big with my brother adventure-game wise, but until then i've decided to work on my own mini-adventures to get me in the practice, and to test things out.  Most likely the graphics and animation will be lame and the stories won't be very complex, but they should be fun.  Of course I probably wouldn't be posting on here, if I wasn't going to use wme :-)

Anyways, I hope to produce some fun things you can play in your spare time.

General Discussion / Can't seem to stay logged in
« on: May 04, 2004, 05:20:20 PM »
Each time I try to log in "Forever" or go to the login screen and click "always stay logged in" when I close my browser window (or tab) and comeback, I always have to re-enter my login information.  Any reason this is like this?

Feature requests, suggestions / Suggestion for the forums
« on: April 07, 2004, 09:00:21 PM »
Could you please fix it to where I can use my back button in the forums?  it is always telling me I can't refresh and that I need to reload the page, it's getting kind of annoying.

Software and games / Wintermute finished projects
« on: March 30, 2004, 08:56:52 PM »
Can we get a list of finished adventure games made with wintermute?  I'm kind of curious.  BTW i'm still working out the story to my adventure game, so it's not like i've stopped...  but it might not be a couple of years till I finish it ;-)

General Discussion / Haven't got around to it...
« on: January 22, 2004, 11:01:33 PM »
I keep checking the forum and site for anything new.  I'd love to make an adventure game and use WME but right now I just haven't been able to get around to it, haven't been able to find the time.

I've got some paid work i'm doing, and then I have a game i'm supposed to be working on with my friend, so the adventure game is going to have to wait.  At least I hope by posting here every so often, that when WME gets REALLY popular, that you don't start charging an arm and a leg for it when I get around to making my game ;-)

Keep up the good work anyways Mnemonic

Game design / Adventure game design
« on: October 12, 2003, 08:40:44 PM »
I've created this poll because i'm curious what the few people on here do when they create their games.  I personally believe in the evolutionary design, that is, start with a few notes and/or images, and then let everything evolve from it.  What are your thoughts on the subject?

Technical forum / Possible bug in "scene_tut.wpr" tutorial
« on: October 07, 2003, 06:29:26 AM »
When I run the scene tutorial in windowed mode, and attempt to maximize the window (800x600 window on an 800x600 screen, instead of centering it manually, i have it maximize to do it automatically) the running game (scene tutorial) crashes...

This is quite interesting, in my official xbox mag, it mentions the new Broken Sword game (for the xbox maybe for other systems too), as well as a review of the game Syberia.

It seems pure adventure games are starting to make a comeback, although not 2d cartoon adventure games.  Still it's a great sign!

btw Mnemonic, you should start creating a 3D engine for Wintermute.  Now firstly hear me out, i'm still a 2d adventure game kind of guy.  But let's remember the old king's quest games being touted as "3D" games because you could walk behind and in front of objects.
Also consider that with a 3d model you could have a full 3d room to have your characters walk around.  The reason i'm thinking about this, is because i'd like to make a game where the characters are 2d cartoon sprites and the background is a 3d model (plus appropriately textured to look like it belongs in a cartoon, but that would be done by me)  It would just make things alot easier, you could still use sprites but now you could design them for 3d space in mind.

anyways just a suggestion :-)

Feature requests, suggestions / Possibility of MOD's?
« on: August 29, 2003, 09:15:27 PM »
Hey Mneumonic - Did I read correctly that someone said that you would implement mod music support if you found a decent free c/c++ library?  If you did, I may just know of the thing!

Send me some email at uhfgood@artoo.net

So we can speak more directly.

General Discussion / Another irc channel #GameDevelopers on Afternet
« on: August 23, 2003, 09:05:49 AM »
I just wanted to briefly mention i have a channel called #GameDevelopers if you want to take a look see... talking about all things game dev :-)  Not to be confused with Gamedev.net's channel which oddly enough doesn't seem to talk about game dev ;-)

Feature requests, suggestions / Some feature suggestions
« on: February 28, 2003, 07:41:34 PM »
Why not allow the software engine be able to do everything the hardware engine does (even advanced effects), even if it's not very fast?  Because I see no reason to use any special features if someone without a 3d accelerator can't use it.  It would take some of the game away, and if I had to, i'd rather just use the base features so that someone without the hardware can play the same game as someone with.

The other suggestion is to support music module playback (.mod, .xm, etc) without going to something like fmod or bass, at least unless you're planning on buying a resale license (and i'm sure they're expensive).

While Ogg is better than mp3 for just about everything, the music files would still be huge, of course if you have dialog you'd use ogg anyways but still, mod musics would be neat :-)
