Abilities of WME regarding 3D realtime characters?
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:09:16 PM »

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for a good engine.
It seems like this one is my favorite. I've saw a lot of amazing work here in the forum and at first I whould like to thank the creator for this project.

My question is which technical opportunities does WME offer for realtime characters?
Can I use highpoly 3D models with complex HLSL FX shaders?
If I use a prerendered background, how am I supposed to make realtime shadows amd what is about light effecting the character?

I suppose this all isn't possible and the things I'm asking for are only avaible in very expensive commercial high end engines but nevertheless,
where are the borders of the engines abilities?
Thanks

1) Can I use highpoly 3D models

Yes... you are only limted by your game design and your target system spec. WME will render what ever you give it.

2) complex HLSL FX shaders?

HLSL shader are in dev for the next version i belive.. so may be soon.. may not be,.. depends on how much time Mnem get off from his paid job. I have no iea if he is going to support normal maps, or any other types of advanced textures or lighting.

3) how am I supposed to make realtime shadows

WME already dose this

4) light effecting the character?

Dose not do this yet.. may be latter... but you can fake lighting effects using materials on your meshes, that change as you exit or enter defined areas of your scene.
