SceneEdit crashes
« on: April 15, 2015, 12:51:46 PM »

Hello WME community,

Yesterday I installed WME 1.10.1 beta, opened documentation and started to create a scene following instructions, but unfortunately, SceneEdit was crashing every time its window showed up and making my PC reset. So today I uninstalled 1.10.1 and installed version 1.9.1 in hope that it would help. No change - computer keeps turning off and resetting. Maybe someone has faced this problem? My PC is Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz, memory 768Mb, Windows XP Pro. Could it be the memory is not enough? Or is that a bug of some kind? I am quite new to WME and so any advice would be great.

Thank you in advance!

Hello again,

Is this forum still supported? The dates of other threads seem rather old here...
Anyway, I think WME is a great tool, and of course I'd love to make a game with it. That's why this constant crash makes me sooo upset.
Can't anyone help me with advice?
Anyone?  :'(

Thanks.

Hello. The forums are still alive but not very crowded so replies can be slow. People are encouraged to drink a beer ::beer (or milk if you prefer it) and have patience.  :)

WME can't crash windows like that. It's probably an outdated buggy driver. Please make sure you update windows and all drivers, especially the gpu drivers and try again. Let us know if this works.

Hey,

also - out of curiosity - please let us know what gpu (card or chipset) you are actually using, thanks. :)

Cheers,

BIG Thanks for your advice to look at gpu drivers, odnorf! In the next post here I'll provide my gpu information. The reason for my impatience is I am fascinated with WME and the opportunities it obviously features and can't wait to start working with it))) I'll take beer/milk drinking hours into consideration, though :)

UPDATE: odnorf, this is what nvidia site says about my gpu drivers -

Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time.

The demos provided with the WME package all run smoothly. Everything works fine. Except in the 3d demo trinity doesn't interact with elements like teapot or crates... She just names the object with male voice. Should it be this way?

If only I could learn what the reason for that problem with computer reset and SceneEdit is.

Thank you for reply, odnorf.

Hi Azrael. Yes, it seems I have. Is that it in the picture?

Thanks for your question anyway.

Try this: run SceneEdit (just run the program without opening any scene). Go to Tools -> Engine settings and uncheck "Use hardware acceleration". It will reduce image quality significantly, but it might prevent the driver crash.

Unfortunately your GPU is quite old and nvidia doesn't release new drivers for it anymore :(

Wow, Mnemonic) Thank you for the development of this fantastic develoment kit. So you think the problem is in my gpu? I'll try what you've recommended right now and reply on how successful that is. Thank you!

HEY, IT WORKED!!! Mnemonic, I've opened 3d demo Front in SceneEdit!  ::rock Thanks a lot.

Now what about image quality reduction? Do you mean it will be lower quality in the end scene? Isn't it Project manager where I add background etc?

Do you think after changing my GPU this issue with reset should be solved? Thank you again.

It will only change the quality in the rendered game you see in your computer. Not in the released game. So no worries.

odnorf, Thank you for this information and for your help. Finally, I can begin WME education  ::thumbup

What do you think, will a new GPU enable me to work with SceneEdit without any restrictions?
