Background Animation

What is the best way to achieve a scene background animation, for example fire moving in a fireplace.  Can I use multiple full background images?

1. In the scene manager create a sprite node.
2. Attach either an animated sprite or a an .ogg video to the node

You can, but it would be terribly ineffective. As eborr said, create an entity with the animated part only, and place the entity to the scene.
